I stand in the cold, the air brushing my face with what feels like a wire brush. God I hate winter. I wouldn't even be here if Venessa and Jake would've caught the bus. But no. They seemed to be too busy talking about stuff that 14/15 year olds talk about. Whatever that is, I never had time for that. It's not like mom could've gotten Skyler to come get them. Oh no, now that she's 20 it's like all of her responsibilities stopped. I thought you got more as you got older...I'm 17 and I'm doing twice as much as Skyler did at 17. I see Jake pushing Venessa out the door and her turning around to scowl at him. I wave, my hand turning bright red from the cold.
"Why didn't you pull the car up" Venessa says trudging her way through the snow.
"Your stupid school wouldn't let me take it pass the parking lot entrance, something stupid like 'it's too icy'" I respond turning around and heading towards the car.
"Isn't that what winter tires are for?" Says Venessa catching up to me.
"No" Jake chimes in.
"winter tires are for the summer". I ignore them as the fight back and forth all the way to the car.
"Where's Sky?" Asks Jake as we I turn the ignition.
"Not here" I say. I am though. I'm always the one who is here. I put the heat on full blast and drive home, trying to tune out the brother and sister bickering. It's not working.
"Ya well obviously she's not here idiot" Venessa prods.
"I was asking WHERE she was" Jake defends himself. I pull in the drive way and I grab the keys out of the ignition.
"Come on losers" I say slamming the door shut. I walk through the cold and I go inside. Before I can even unzip my jacket I hear dad call.
"Chase, get everyone in here now"
