(draft)

'Hey, watch it!' I heard a man shout as I almost knocked him over, I looked down at my watch as I sprinted past many houses, 1:15, 20 minutes to do this. I felt the rush of wind in my hair and the feeling of my feet hitting the ground as I ran. I looked back in front of me and saw the gates just a couple hundred meters ahead, ok I have to just jump over the road barrier and run for it, then I can get back home.

I jumped over the barrier and was about to slide under the gates when I felt two strong arms wrap around me and pull me up, 'OI, JUST WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR DOING?!? AND WHY AREN'T YOU AT SCHOOL!?!' the guard looked at me and I knew I blew it.

The guard took me back to the only high school in the area, Mt Helens Grammar. When I stepped into headmistress Smiths office she was shocked that I had just barged in then her shock turned into disappointment as she watched the guard walk in behind me. 'um... hello, how may I help you?' she smiled at the guard but sent a glare towards me, 'I just found this girl attempting an escape to the outlands, I was just in time to catch her or she would've made it,' at these words I could see the anger starting to take over the disappointment on the headmistresses' face. 'Thankyou sir, we will see to her punishment right away,' I just hang my head and stared at the ground as the headmistress talked to the guard, 'just trying to keep the children from the dangers and foolishness of the outlands, good day ma'am'. When the guard left I stood still, no courage to move, headmistress Smith was boiling with fury but contained her anger and turned towards me, 'take a seat', I sat down but didn't dare to lift my head. 'this is the fourth time this week miss Carter, and after the warnings I have given you, you still cut class and try to escape to the outlands, do you have any idea what could be out there to manipulate you, dO YOU!' I still looked at my lap as she lectured me about the outlands, 'And do you know what type of people live out there, there are barbaric savages that have no worth to live. You must understand that when a ruler goes to the outlands without permission they are forever exiled and you would be left in the hands of monsters,' I looked at the ground with my head full of reasons why I could stand up for myself right then and there but kept quiet because I didn't want to have more of my afternoons in school. 'can you please tell me why you are doing this; you haven't even been attending this school until two weeks ago' I lifted my head 'I don't know, ma'am'.

'Hey Eli, over here!' I turned around and saw my only friends, 'oh, hey Casey, Hey Hugo' I smiled as I sat down with them. 'so how did smith go?' I sighed as I told them what happened, 'geez, a week of afterschool detentions, what did you do?' I tried to think of an excuse, no one knew that I was an outsider and I can't trust anyone with my secret because I know what happened to the last outsider that trespassed, 'um... you don't want to hear about it, ha ha' I laughed nervously as Hugo gave me a suspicious look, 'she probably tried to get to the outlands again,' 'WHAT!' I snapped my head to the girl with her head in a book 'how on earth do you know that? I mean noo, why would I do that' Hugo's jaw dropped 'ok we are totally going to your place after school!' oh no I thought as Hugo and started getting really excited that I was a rebel and cut class to escape to the oh so scary outlands.

I am now walking home with a bookworm and an overly excited chipmunk (Casey and Hugo, you can decide who's who), I lead them through my shortcut and lead them to my little hut that isn't visible to people passing by. 'this place is nice' Casey stated as I let them in, 'I guess, but it isn't bad for a structure that only took two weeks to build,' I shrugged my shoulders and the other two looked at me with bewilderment written all over their faces. 'so... why were you cutting class again?' Hugo looked at me and his eyes were pleading for an answer, 'well I guess I'd have to tell you guys eventually. I am an outsider, have been since birth and you two obviously know the story of the great war, yes I am not supposed to be here and yes I should be dead for as much as looking at the village let alone entering. My mother was the last outsider in a ruler village but that was never in the news or anything because of laws, the law states that an outsider caught by a ruler is to be beheaded and no news would be shared for the village to maintain its peaceful state. My mother was actually beaten then she managed to escape and returned home, what you really think of the rulers actually not true, they are brutal and unforgiving.'
