The Trap

I sit here, watching, waiting for everyone to come. Behind these bars, my life is never ending. I see them come, I see them go. No one escapes my attention.

At the beginning of the day, I wait to be picked up. I yearn for the feel of someone touching me. Ah, here he is. Don't ask me his name, I never hear it spoken. Maybe I am too busy elsewhere to be interested when this happens.

He looks at me. I can feel his stare as his vision penetrates, making me want to shiver, but I will wait until later for that. He surveys his surroundings like I imagined a king would do to his land in medieval times.

Wait, someone is coming. The stairs creak. Again, I never hear her name spoken, but know she is something to do with the man. I watch as they kiss. I hear her say, to him, 'Good night, last night.'

I see him reply with a wink and a smile.

But, I still remain here quiet.

I watch as all the tables get cleaned by another woman, whom I only see in the morning. She is busy with a tall can and cloth. As she completes her task, she cheerily sings to herself. I wish I was able to join her. I've tried to speak, but never able to bring out any words so I remain with only my thoughts.

Now it is her turn to touch me. I feel her hands stroke down my side, bringing a smile to my thoughts. I wanted to scream out to her to leave me alone, but knew it would be helpless. She moves me from where I was sat. Where is she taking me? That I cannot answer myself as I don't know what everything is called here.

She opens the door, placing me with others of my kind. Then, the door shuts behind me. A loud thud as it slammed. It was so dark in here, I wanted to be let out. I shouted, but again, don't know why I wasted my thoughts as no one was able to hear me.

I felt water go all over me, and it bought a clean sensation. This was nice, and I sort of remember this happening quite a few times before, enjoying it each time. I watched the others, but they said nothing, not even to me, when we were all of the same kind.

Finally, the sensation ended. The door opened and I was let free once more, sorry, as free as you can be when you stuck behind these bars.

All of us was placed side by side and inspected at how clean we were.

The man came back. I feel him pay special attention to me.

'Tonight is going to be a busy night,' he said to the cleaner.

She giggled low as she looked admiringly at him.

'I have a feeling it will be even better than last night.'

I remained where she had placed me, waiting to be put back to where I should have been.

The door opened.

I looked at the clock. Blimey, visiting time already.

The visitors shouted, and I watched as the man hurriedly provided to their shouts. They were like primitives on a night out.

Then, the door opens once more. A man and woman walks in. She goes to the man while he sits. She speaks to the man I introduced earlier.

I assume he obeys her orders as he leaves her, tending to her needs.

This time, he hands me to her.

She looks at me, then her hand touches me. It felt so warm. She takes me. Places me between the man she came in with and herself. He looks at me. I am able to sense he is not happy.

They talk for a while. I try to listen, but their shouts were too loud for me to understand.

Suddenly, he rises and storms from her. I see him walk to the toilet, but she is not happy. Whatever was said, she turns to me. 'Now it's your turn,' she said, placing her hand around me once more.

When he came back, she had left her seat. He sat. This time, she bought back one of my acquaintances. I wanted to talk to him, but he remained as quiet as me, just obeying the hand orders provided by the couple we were sat by.

She lifted my acquaintance.

'Don't you think you have had enough,' the man asked.

The woman laughed once. 'Stop always trying to tell me what to do, I'll decide when I have had enough, not you.'

He tried to pull my friend from her, but she remained firm as I watched her tighten her grip.

'Fine then, if that's the way you want you play it, you have your fun, but don't expect to come back to me when it all goes wrong.' He grabbed his coat, storming from his seat once more, to leave.

She treats my friend more carefully, before rising from her seat. She takes him with her. I want to shout to let him be, but she didn't want to hear.

I see her slamming him down. 'Another when you ready,' she shouted.

I surveyed my surroundings, witnessing it become fuller. The noise and clatter always made me frightened. I had heard so many stories of what goes on, I don't wish to believe them, but the truth is there, and it has to be faced by someone, so why not myself.

She was provided with another.

And another.

And another.

All the while she had been here, she ignored me as she used my friend for her purposes. Soon, she was unstable to walk. I saw men grab out to her to hold her upright. She appeared to be enjoying the attention. I had seen it all before, and it was never a pretty sight

One of the men grabbed around her, trying his luck, as his hand moved up and down the side of her leg. She moved from him. 'What do you think you are doing,' she pushed her skirt back down.

The man who had grabbed her, looked shocked, 'I thought you were up for it.'

'Like hell. I have my man back at the house.'

'Where is he now then? I saw how you two have been arguing tonight and he stormed out, while you remained by yourself.'

'But he is still there. He'll never leave me. He knows a good thing when he has one.'

I strained hard to hear, but I managed to listen to their conversation, until the door slammed open. My attention turned towards the sound, and I could sense everyone else at the same idea.

The woman's man was back, and she ran, grabbing around his body as he entered, looking at the one who had recently tried his luck.

'If you don't come home with me now, Sammy, we're finished,' he said.

She looked into his eyes, 'I will come,' she hiccuped. 'I have had enough, anyway.'

I watched as they passed me.

'I am sorry for all the things I said earlier,' she said. 'I meant none of them.'

I watched him nod knowingly. 'You are always like this when you come here. What is it with you and alcohol?' he asks, leading her out.

I remained on the table until everyone had disappeared. Nothing else eventful happened. One a night, that's about the limit here. That'll suit me fine.

As I was taken from my table and placed onto another wooden surface, I was reaquainted with my friends once more. This could be a lonely job, but someone had to do it.

I heard the doors being bolted as I remained silent; I heard the lights being switched off, as I continued to remain silent; I heard the stairs creak. After darkness engulfed us once more, my friends and I chatted about the night's events in The Trap Inn, and knew that tomorrow, we would all be used again for another round.
