A New Perspective

When I awoke from my drugged nap, I was curled on Kai's chest while Kyo patiently waited for me to notice him, a steaming bowl of stew in his hands. Nya rubbed his body against my cheek, meowing softly as did Amity, and I hugged them tearfully, thankful they were both alright. Then I slowly ate the savory dinner Kyo had for me, noticing the grin twisting his lips too late and slowly began to fall back asleep while he chuckled triumphantly.

"What did you do?" Kai asked softly, I could hear a touch of anger in his voice.

"I'm giving her a different perspective is all" Kyo replied smugly, "I think I'll let you see it afterward; she's going to be sooo cute."

"Kyo" Kai growled but then everything went dark.

When the shroud of darkness was lifted, I blinked in the sudden bright light, staring at the giant on the other side of the bars warily. The man's pale green eyes were narrowed while he watched me, his tan face was wizened, and his hair was more gray than black. Scoffing, he whistled a beautiful song then glared at me expectantly.

I tried, really I did, to sing the tune that I had heard but I messed up, and he shook my cage before dropping the blanket again, leaving me in darkness once more.

Later, a female giant lifted the blanket to offer me food, her pale blue eyes watched me disinterestedly, while her rich brown hair was in an elegant updo, meaning she wouldn't be around for long. After I had eaten, she dropped the blanket back over my cage, and I cried in protest. "Shut up Artemis" she barked, and I fell silent with a barely audible cry; I hated being left alone in the dark.

I don't know how long it was before the last giant came and lifted the cloth covering my prison, exposing us both to the light. I looked around my dreary cage, which was bare except for the paper on the bottom, the bottle for my water, a container for my food, and the wooden bar I was standing on. Blinking, I looked over at the male with reddish blond hair and light gray eyes, calling out softly to him.

Ignoring me, he checked my water, the state of my prison, and grumbled "good night Artemis" before letting the blanket fall back down to leave me once more in darkness. I sang softly to myself to pass the time, wishing I didn't have to always live in the dark, that the Giants would be kinder and love me.

I had finally fallen into a restless sleep when the cloth was lifted, and a bright light shining in my eyes woke me up. Grumbling I looked to see which of the three giants was here and what they wanted. I was surprised to see a black haired giant man with green eyes that had slit pupils which had my instincts screaming in fear of him.

"Well hello" he chuckled, his eyes looking me over with curiosity and something I didn't like. "Aren't you a pretty bird?"

I chirped angrily at him in response, and he hushed me quickly "Shh" he whispered, "you're going to get me caught little bird." Glaring defiantly I squawked loudly, and he gave me a delighted grin, "Oh that's cute, you're a feisty little thing aren't you? That settles it, little bird, you're coming with me."

The blanket over my cage was lowered, and I chirped angrily when the darkness I knew so well returned. "Hush, my soon to be feisty little pet, hmm what's this?" I heard something rustling and then he chuckled "so your name is Artemis little bird? Cute. Hmm, you're an oddity, little girl, a red song canary; aren't your kind usually yellow? Ah well, the owner of this house's loss is my gain, hmm? Time to go before I get caught my little songbird."

I felt my cage move and I chirped angrily, "hush, Artemis, I promise I won't hurt you" this unknown male murmured. I grumbled at him, but eventually the gentle swaying of my cage lulled me to sleep.
