Once upon a time there was once a couple, Samuel Thomas and his wife Elizabeth White, who had just moved into a little old town called Hell, Livingston County, Michigan. They were looking for a big old house they could move into and eventually make a family in. There was only an old abandoned house for sale. The couple weren't really convinced when they saw the house because it seemed oddly terrifying, and was going to need fixing. After talking about it they decided it would be fun to buy the old house and make it into something they could call home.
A week later, they got all settled in. Sam got a job and Elizabeth stayed home and worked on the house until Sam got home and helped her with things she couldn't do by herself.
One day while the Elizabeth was painting the main bedroom on the second floor, she heard a little girl cry for help coming from the basement. She was afraid of going down stairs alone, she decided to wait until Sam got home from work. Finally, he got home, she ran down the stairs and told him what she had heard. He thought she was overreacting and thought it was probably an old pipe. Sam looked tired and stressed, she decided that she wouldn't bother him about the noises anymore. She hadn't heard any more strange noises since she had last heard the little girl scream, and she started to think that her husband was right.
It had been a month since the couple had bought the house, they were almost done remodeling the house. One afternoon they had finished organizing the living room and sat down to rest before they started working on what still wasn't quite finished. Suddenly, they heard screams coming from the basement. Sam didn't want to worry Elizabeth and told her that it was probably the pipes again but seconds later they heard the screams again but this time they were louder and much more clear. They heard the voice of a women crying for help and begging someone to stop. At this point both Sam and Elizabeth were terrified, Sam grabbed a hammer that was laying on the floor and headed towards the basement door. Elizabeth stayed in the living room and waited for Sam to return. When he returned he looked confused, he hadn't seen anything in the basement. They decided it was best if they just went to bed and tried to get some sleep. They didn't do much sleeping, they couldn't stop thinking about the screams they had heard. It was the middle of the night when they were woken up by the sound of a glass breaking followed by the same screams they had heard the day before. Sam quickly got up and went downstairs to see what had happened, Elizabeth followed him down. When she caught up with same Sam he was standing in the middle of the living room, his face was pale. She tried to shake him, but Sam looked terrified, he wasn't able talk and only pointed to a white wall. There was nothing there, she took him to the kitchen to try and get him to calm down. As he explained what he had seen when he went down the stairs Elizabeth made him some tea. He told Elizabeth that when he ran down the stair he had seen a family that was covered in blood, their faces were pale and their lips were blue, they strangest thing was that they all had a hole where their heart was. They went back to their room, Elizabeth stayed up until Sam fell asleep.
The next morning they started researching about the house to see if they could somehow find out what had happened in that house. After hours of researching they finally found a newspaper article from May 6, 1956. The DeFeo family used to live in the big house back in 1793. Until one day, November 1, 1793 they were found slain in the house; the older son Ronald DeFeo Jr. was the only one missing. The police found him hours later in a cemetery near by, sitting in the middle of a pentacle, and on each corner of the pentacle were the hearts of his family members. People say that he used their hearts as an offering to the devil. They also say that whoever dares to live in that house ends up dead because the DeFeo family haunt them, kill them and take their hearts to replace theirs.
The couple were freaked out as soon as they finished reading the article. They started looking for a solution. Later that night Sam brought home a ouija board, Elizabeth instantly got angry and thought that he was crazy. Sam explained to her how the ouija board could help them solve their problem. He wanted to use the ouija board to communicate with the family and help them find peace. They sat down at their kitchen table and placed the ouija board in the center of the table. They started out by asking if there was anyone in the room with them, there was no response. Then Sam asked what they wanted and the planchette started moving until it formed the word "you." Elizabeth started to have second thoughts about using the ouija board, but she wanted to know more. They started to ask more and more questions. Until they both thought that it was enough questions for that night.
They forgot to read the instructions of the ouija board. You always have to say "bye" and if you don't the spirit that you were communicating with can get stronger.
That night Elizabeth was woken up by the sound of pans clinging, glass breaking, and loud screams. She noticed that Sam wasn't sleeping next to her. She walked to the stairs and started calling out Sam's name. There was no response, she walked slowly down the stairs and headed to the kitchen where she had heard the noises coming from. Sam was standing in front of the window that was by the sink. She felt a huge relief when she saw him, she asked him why he hadn't answered her when she was calling out his name, Sam just stood there like a statue. She walked toward him and turned him around so he would face her, when she did that she saw that Sam had blood coming out of his mouth. She screamed from the top of her lungs and tried to help him but Sam didn't move. She realized that Sam wasn't moving and looked at him again, Sam started to laugh as if someone had told him a really good joke. He pushed her against the wall and ran to the basement.
The police arrived at their front door, someone had filed a noise complaint. Since no one had opened the door they barged in. They saw the glass and blood that was all over the floor and started searching the house. When one of the police officers went to the basement he saw Sam's body laying on the floor. His body looked as if he had been dead for weeks, the police officer immediately noticed that his heart was missing from his body.
After this night they closed the house down. Buried Sam's body in the cemetery that was near the house, Elizabeth's body was never found.
They say that you can still hear the screams and glass breaking in the house every night at midnight.
