This is my first fanfic ever! I wanted to use some characters from a book I am writing. I hope people will enjoy them. I hope I did well on it...and I apologize if it's too short. Reader is gender neutral!

3rd person POV.

How was this possible? How could someone who seemed so happy suddenly look so...broken? James sighed as he looked at the young (y/g) huddled in the corner. He watched as their dull (e/c) orbs filled with tears, and felt his heart break. Slowly he walked towards the young (y/g), but as he came closer the (y/g) leaned as far back into the wall as they could. "Go away..." their voice was unusually quiet and pleading. "Please (f/n), just let me help you..." he said. They only flinched and cowered even further into the wall. James sighed and ran a hand through his hair, thinking of what he could do. Suddenly he remembered a song they used to sing together when they were younger, and so he sang.

"I promise that one day I'll be around

I'll keep you sound

Right now it's pretty crazy
And I don't know how to stop or slow it down

I know there are some things we need to talk about

And I can't stay

As he finished the first thing he saw was a look of hope flashing through their (e/c) eyes. He smiled and said, "You'll never be alone, I promise you that no matter what I'll be here for you. I care about you and...I love you..." The young (y/g)'s eyes widened as his words settled in, slowly they stood up and slowly walked towards him, and when they reached him, they jumped into his arms and cried. "Shh, everything is alright now. I've got you...I'll always be here." As he held the sobbing (y/g) he gently rubbed their back in a comforting manor, when the young (y/g) pulled away he saw relief, happiness, admiration, and hope in their eyes. "I-I love you too..." They said. James smiled as he placed a hand on their tear stained cheek, and connected their lips. The kiss was brief but full of love. As they pulled away James smiled and pulled the (y/g) into a hug once more.
