“Holy shit…” I tried to calm my nerves by inhaling and exhaling some air. I looked back at the sleeping Abby. She’s literally all over me. And she’s heavy, please don’t tell her. Her right arm is draped on my waist. Her leg made a cut on my legs and her head is between my shoulder and my head. I need to get up to make breakfast, seriously.
“Hmmm—mmmhp!” she inched closer to me, if that’s even possible. God, I love this girl but I really need to get up now before I even make her my own breakfast this morning.
“Abby, don’t torture me like this.” I sighed. I closed my eyes tightly before drifting my body away from her. I did a big effort on trying not to wake her up. I kissed her forehead lightly before leaving our bedroom.
Naghilamos lang ako at nagmouth-wash then pumunta na agad ako ng fridge para maghanap ng iluluto. Well, here’s the thing. Abby doesn’t really know how to cook. I know, I know. It’s ridiculous being a pastry chef and not even knowing how to cook a simple meal. I’ve got to be kidding but I’m not. She’s never cooked anything in our entire relationship. I did all the cooking. But it’s all right. I didn’t make her my girlfriend because I want someone to cook for me, I want her because she understands me.
Another hour passed before she wakes up, grumpy.
“Why the hell did you not wake me up?” she asked irritated first thing in the morning. Imagine.
I put the hotdogs on the plate. “Because you sleep so soundly and I don’t want to ruin your sleep. Why are you even angry? Did I do something again, I’m being kind here cooking some breakfast for you. Be thankful.”
“Right. I’m sorry.” Dumiretso siya ng lababo at nagmumog. “I just had a very bad dream.”
“About what?”
“About us.”
“Tell me about it.”
“Ayoko. Baka magkatotoo pa.”
I walk towards her and gave her a back hug. “Babe, you have to tell me about it. Don’t burden yourself with that shit.”
She leaned her body on mine. “Well, we were on a church, a wedding church and you were about to marry someone… someone not me.”
“Oh…that is quite a dream, isn’t it.” Pati ako natahimik.
“I told you it’s not good. Sana hindi ko nalang pala kinuwento.” Sabi niya ng matamlay. Aalis na dapat siya sa yakap ko but I didn’t let her off. Instead, I hug her more tightly.
“Listen, Abby. I’m not gonna promise anything to you because I don’t want to be like your father that keeps breaking his promises to you. I’ll just say this, I’m in love with you. I really am. I love you. I love you. I love you. I hope I made my point clear.”
“You did.”
We ate breakfast together. Magkaharap kami ng posisyon. I stared at her while eating.
“Would you stop staring? Seriously,” she said trying hard not to smile.
“What? Hindi ko alam na pati pala pagtitig eh bawal narin sa bahay nato.”
“Because you are scaring me. Just say it if I have shit on my face.”
“Trust me if you have, I would have wiped it off already.”
“Way to go, charmer.” She smiled. I grab the glass of water then drink it. This time she’s the one staring.
“Gumaganti ka ba?”
“What?” she asked amused. “I’m not. It’s just that you’re so good-looking in the morning with your messy hair and all.”
“Wow.”
“I’m not kidding.” Her laugh’s about to blow up.
“I didn’t say you were.”
“But your reaction says it all.”
“Really?”
“Really.”
“Want to go somewhere today?” I changed the topic. She’s bullying me and I don’t like it. She has this thing on my hair. She compliments it on the most weird way.
“Sure, saan ba?”
“A zoo maybe.”
“You’ve got to be kidding me.”
