Taylor stared out the kitchen window, looking at nothing in particular, just thinking about life and about how last year at this exact time everything was so different. She knew that things were never going to go back to the way they were, but she hoped that at least something would change for the better. Of course, nothing did and there she sat on the day before Christmas Eve with an invitation to a pathetic single girls Christmas party from Selena. Just how horribly did I screw up last year? She wondered as the memories came flooding back.
Taylor was perfectly happy with her boyfriend at the time which was her guitarist, Grant Mickelson. He no longer played in her band and it’s been more than a year since Taylor performed live, but the things that happened between her and Grant were still fresh in her mind. Like all people, Taylor made mistakes and learned to accept them as she lived on. When she and Grant couldn’t ignore the sparks that were flying between them any longer, everyone thought that they were a perfect pair. Taylor thought so herself too. She even daydreamed about her future with Grant. Taylor was so certain that everything would work out for them.
Grant treated her better than any of her past boyfriends. With him, she felt like a real princess. Everyone was jealous of their relationship, but surprisingly, nobody tried to ruin their happiness. Taylor assumed that the haters took a step back when they realized that she had found herself a perfect match. Taylor began to enjoy life and live it to the fullest, with Grant by her side. Performing on stage beside him became much better, too because she loved him and knew that he loved her too. And Mama Swift was also pleased since her little girl was content and not complaining about her achy broken heart. It was as if life couldn’t get any better.
Taylor was loved and accepted by the Mickelson family. They all told Grant to never let her slip away and, according to everyone, he loved Taylor more than anything. At the same time, something different was happening between Taylor’s family and several of her closest friends. Apparently, when Grant first became part of Taylor’s band, they’d all bet on how long it would be before Grant and Taylor fell in love. Someone said that when they started dating was in no way related to when they actually fell in love with each other, and an argument began. When Taylor heard about that, she was shocked to find out that her friends and relatives were debating about her love life, but she just laughed it off with the one she loved. To this day, no one but Taylor and Grant really knows when they first fell in love with each other. They never discussed it while they were together and now Taylor doesn’t even want to hear anyone mention Grant’s name near her.
Grant was one of the best things that have ever happened to Taylor. Even Meredith seemed to really like him. Grant was Taylor’s best friend, boyfriend, and soul mate at the same time. She felt like she could confide in him and tell him absolutely everything. Whenever something happened, good or bad, Grant always there to help Taylor celebrate her success or to comfort her when she’s had a bad day.
But everything changed for the very worst on that fateful Christmas Eve. Just the sight of Grant caused her so much pain and she had absolutely nobody to help her. The one who meant the most to her had completely forgotten her and was laughing away with another girl.
