when i left my house, i couldn't help but gaze at the fog outside, somehow thicker than i had ever seen it.

but i wasn't driving, so i had nothing to worry about.

i opened his door, and despite the fact my house was a short distance away, i had instantly felt home sick.

the hallways were filled with people, and my gut told me to leave, to go home.

i wish i had listened to my gut.

he saw me standing at the door, and instantly his face brightened. i smiled back, even though i knew i would probably never see him after this day.

after walking up to me, he gives me a warm kiss on the cheek, pressing me close to him. i find myself grinning once again.

we walk into his backyard, and i feel a chill as i notice the trees.

we didn't have fences. only trees, which slowly led to a long road, which was almost always empty. tonight, the fog wrapped around the trees, suffocating them.

his arms holding me might have been the only thing keeping me from leaving.
