Dear Emma,

I wanted to let you know that we were planned to come back in two weeks time. Only now there was a setback and we must move it to four weeks. Kiss lily for me and tell her that I wish her well. I'm sorry I will not make it for her fourth birthday. I will think about you both and celebrate from where we are. They won't allow me to tell you of course, just know that we are all safe and warm. I love you.

The sun shone through the living hall where I sat watching everyone bustle around the entire house. Its Lily's Birthday tomorrow and in our house every birthday is a huge event. Victoria runs down the stairs holding a huge box in her hands, her hair flying in her face, eyes wild and wandering around looking for someone. She sees me finally sitting down on the couch finger to my temple watching the scene unfold before me. It's also tradition that the parents of the child is surprised as well, with how the celebration turns out in the end. "Emma! I know your not suppose to help, but could you take this box and give it to Ian for me" she pleads, placing the box of different sorts of papers inside. "Thanks a lot!" then she's off back up the stairs taking two at a time.

"Well ok" I say aloud to myself as I start toward the kitchen where Ian is. "Ian" I yell to him holding the box above my head.

"Did Victoria pawn this off on you?" he takes the box in his hands holding it in between his arm and elbow.

Nodding my head "indeed she did"

"Well shoo off now, you can't be here, it's tradition" he flings his arms at me, pushing me out of the kitchen.

"I'm leaving...going to head into town maybe find something for my little ones party" turning around throwing a hand over my shoulder saluting him goodbye.

"Emma!" I whip around to see Kida running up to me, her brown dress breezing behind her, and a piece of parchment in her hands. "I have this list from grandmother asking for things....I know you don't have to do it...but could you...I don't know...possibly help me?"

I smile at her "Its no problem at all, I was just heading into town"

She smiles relief flooding her features. "Thank you!"

"Yes" I nods my head, hers bopping around excitedly and we walk side by side into town. There were many people out today. Family's stopping through with wheelbarrows collecting food for their homes. A man bellowing loudly with laughter, holding his chest. He falls over, still laughing as his friend grabs him by his arms heaving him back up to his seat. There had to be at least three hundred people out.

"Emma, what is it you needed in town?"

"Oh" I look to her now realizing I was standing in the middle of the path as people were trying to get past. I catch up to where she is, having to talk a little louder. "I needed to get some cloth. I wanted to make Lillian a dress for her birthday" we walk up to the stand where they sell beautiful fabrics of many colors we have never seen before. "Are these new May I ask?"

"Yes ma'am, we got them yesterday from Switzerland. Our men including your husband is doing a fine job at trading" his Italian accent thick not helping that he talked with a small piece of wood in his mouth that he chewed on. His cap low over his eyes, and beard a dark brown. I run my hands across the fabric, feeling the soft lightness I've never experienced before. A light purple color catches my eye.
