The Touch
~Coral~
I starred at Pearl in shock as I looked down at my skin. Pearl said I was shining Coral but I couldn’t see it. To me my skin just looked normal.
I looked out to the sea and my heart started pounding, the surfer was coming to shore. I watched him as he got off his board and flicked his hair back. Everything he did I saw in slow motion. I finally came back from my daydream as we made eye contact and I felt so different, so surreal, something I had never felt before.
I silently watched him as he made his way to where Pearl and I were standing. He finally gets to where were standing and begins to speak.
“I’ve never seen anyone up this early running.” He says
“That’s because of miss morning bird here.” Pearl says as she points to me.
His eyes go from looking at Pearl to looking at me straight in the eye. I get lost in his eyes as I can practically see the ocean in them. Their beautiful color, an ocean color of a tropical island. I snap out of my trance when he begins to speak again.
“Do you wear contacts? Like the colored ones.” He looks at me
“No, I don’t.” I simply reply
“So.., those are your real color eyes?” he hesitates but continues to ask
I can’t believe he thinks my eyes are fake! Then again I’ve never seen anyone with the same color eyes as me.
“My eyes have been this color since I was born.” I say
“WOW!”
He stares deep into my eyes as if he’s searching for gold. I wait to see if he’s ever going to snap out of his trance. I wait and wait and finally I snap my fingers in front of his eyes
He’s startled as I predicted, but he quickly realizes he’s just been standing there starring.
“Oh, sorry I didn’t mean to keep starring I guess I got lost.” He shyly says
“Guess you got lost! You’ve been standing there forever getting lost in her eyes!” Pearl practically shouts
“Pearl” I sternly look at her hoping she realizes how unbelievably rude she just was.
“Sorry I didn’t mean-“Pearl begins to say but he quickly cuts her off
“Np, its fine it was my fault.”
Things begin to feel awkward really fast so I quickly Change the subject.
“That wave before all your friends were practically crushed but you didn’t even flinch.” I say as I watch him begin to speak in honor
“Yeah! Sickest wave I’ve ever seen, guess I got lucky” He says and a smile begins to form on his face.
I smile back at him. I hear Pearl begin to cough as if she was grossed out, but I don’t care about her. In fact I don’t care about anything but him. At least in this moment.
He drops his surfboard wax and lands in front of are feet. I went to go grab it when I saw his hand go to get the wax too. Suddenly I felt tingling in my hand as both of our hands touched. Not like the corny love movies when their hands touch but like two magnets that have no control of connecting they just touch. I slowly look up at him and he meets my gaze. I quickly release my hand from touching his and hand him the wax.
“I better get going” I say
“Yeah me too, I guess I’ll see you two around.”
He bites his lip as he picks up his board and begins to walk away. God he’s killing me.
I turn to the direction me and Pearl came from and begin to get ready to run. I’m about to start running when Pearl immediately yanks my hand.
I quickly look at her as I see why she grabbed my hand. It’s changing colors.
“Coral your skin was weird before but at least it was Coral this color is like-“I quickly cut her off from her words when I notice the color.
“It’s the color of the ocean, the color of his eyes” I say
Pearl turns to me as I feel a smile creep up on my face. Who is he? Was the only question that kept replaying in my head as I starred at my hand.
