"Venn? Are you going to untie them now?"

Ana was sitting on the bench shaking her skates in my face. I tought her basic moves and how to stand straight up on the ice without falling. My so called lesson only lasted an hour because Ana gave up after falling about 25 times.

"Yea yea I'm getting there shut up."

I start untying her shoe when she decided to start singing christmas carols at the top of her lungs.

"JINGLE BELLS JINGLE BELLS JINGLE ALL THE WAY!"

"Shh shut up! It's August! Why the he-"

Help me!

I stop untying her shoe half way down the lace.

Can anyone hear me!?

Someone is calling for help. I look around the large open area to see if anyone was hurt. No one. I look over at the rink, a few toddlers were waddling around on the ice with parents closely behind them making sure they didn't fall. No one. I look back up at Ana who had a concerned look on her face.

"Ana did you hear that?" I ask, genuinely worried that someone was hurt.

"Hear what? Are you ok Venn? Your looking a little faint. Do you want to go home now?"

I take one last glance around the room. No one was calling out anymore. All I could hear was the laughter from little kids, arcade games beeping, and the chit chat between young adults and teens in the dinner.

"Uh yea, I'd like that."

"Ok come on. Finnish untying my shoe and we can go."

I undid the last knot in the lace and took the skate of her foot. She puts on her shoes and grabs the skates on the floor and walks over to the main desk to return them.

Walking out the door I feel like someone is right behind me. I turn around but no one is there. I look ahead again to see Ana staring at me with a face of pure terror.

"Venn are you ok!? You look like your about t-"

HELP ME!

"AHH! STOP IT! STOP SCREAMING! JUST STOP!" I collapse on the ground hands on my ears surprised by the sudden yell in them.

"Venn calm down no one is screaming!"

"I WANT TO GO HOME!"

I run to car as fast as my long legs can take me. Ana is right behind me running just as fast. We get in the car and I speed as fast as possible, with out getting in trouble, to Ana's house. After dropping her of I go strait back home. And barge trough the front door.

"MOM, DAD, I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS TO ASK!"

"Sure, what is it sweet heart?" My dad is the first to come down the stairs and into dinner room where I am. He takes a seat to the left of me pushing his seat up a bit closer.

"Can you tell me about this so called curse we have?"

He looks at me in confusion. As if he had no idea what I was talking about.

"Well... I wasn't the one who had so I couldn't tell you much. But your mother can tell you all you need to know."

"Tell her all about what?" My mom walks in just in time. She sits down just ahead of me.

"Mom what can you tell me about the curse?"

She look down at her hands, moving her thumbs up and down. Something she only did when thinking.

"Well let's see," she  straightens up and looks me in the eye,"the curse is passed down mother to daughter, always has been, there have been a few occasions of men getting it. But they couldn't pass it on to their kids like the women could. Once the women had a daughter the curse was gone from the mother and now the child bore the burden of the curse. The curse would only choose one child to pass onto. Sometimes the first child would not be chosen. I was the third girl to be born in my family and I got the curse. Your my only child so it passed onto to you and left me."

"So now I know how I got it... But what exactly is it?" I asked wondering if all these crazy things that keep happening are from the curse.

"Well we can see into the spiritual realm." She says smoothly like it's no big deal. I look over at my dad and he looks bored out of his mind.

"Are you kidding me?! How!?"

"I don't really know how we got it. All I know is we all experience it differently. I could talk to spirits. My mom could actually touch them. Her mother could only look at them. Some say your great great grandma actually had some of their powers." She glances over at a picture on the wall of my family.

"Spirits have powers!?" Well that's shocking.

"Of course they do. Some could fly, some could produce oras that could change emotion. Some sing so beautifully it would bring you to tears."

Wait that last one sounded familiar...

"Mom that sounds like a siren. Like those mermaid things that would sing and make sailors kill themselves or something like that. And the ora thing sounds like you got it off of twilight."

I'm pretty sure she's just messing with me now. All of this sounds like absolute rubbish. Like she read it off a book and took all the crappy powers out of it. She's got to be joking. I mean really? Oras, spirits, flying? Now what? They can make magical fire shot out their hands like iron man? Or move things around with their mind like a ghost? Do spirits even have minds?

"I'm not joking! How do you know they didn't get the ideas from us? This curse has been in our family for so long, who know what might have slipped out."

"Sure mom ok, whatever you say." I get up and start to walk away. Turning around the corner about to go up stairs when a loud screeching voice, even louder than before, screamed in my ear.

HELP!!!

That's all I remember before being consumed by complete utter darkness.
