It was just for one night. I was only in Edge Haven for one night and I had to make things right with Nathan. After a horrible night three years ago, my family decided that it would be best and safer if we moved away. Nathan and I were best friends since preschool. Over time, we started to developed feelings for each other. The night I was attacked, Nathan had confessed his feelings for me.
I spent a month in a coma and not once did Nathan leave my side. During that month is when family decided it would be safer to move. All my friends came to visit. All my friends except Nathan. I emailed, called, texted, and never once did he respond. I understood that it was hard but, I had no choice. In the end it doesn't matter, I have just one night to make things right. I miss my friend. After much convincing my parents agreed to let me go back to Edge Haven to visit my friends. That night was a basketball game then Nathan would be throw this huge after party as he always did. I guess it comes with the territory of being the star player of the Edge Haven Trojans.
I had arrived at the party an hour after it had started. The music was blasting and, the drinks were flowing. So it came as no surprise that no one noticed my entrance. I made my way through the party until I came to a complete stop. It is possible that since the last time I saw him he has gotten more attractive than I remember. There he stood surrounded by all our friends, without a care in the world. Maybe coming here was a mistake. Before I could make a beeline back to the front door I was stopped by Bailey. She was my best friend. Me, her, and Nathan were the three amigos. She greeted me like she hadn't just saw me two weeks ago.
"OMG! What are you doing here?" She asked.
"I came back to visit. Plus, I wanted to talk to Nathan but, it was a mistake I'm just going to leave."
"No, you're not. Besides its been forever since we saw you."
"Bailey you saw me two weeks ago." I said with a laugh, it was always like Bailey to exaggerate a situation but I love her for it. "Nathan looks good like he's happy. I should go." I said.
"No, you will stay." Before I could even fight back or get a word out she does what she always does. "Hey Nate." She screams.
"What are you doing?" I whisper.
"What you're too chicken to do." She said.
Before I knew it Bailey was dragging into the kitchen where Nathan and the rest of the group stood. There was no backing down now.
"Hey guys, look who I found." Bailey said.
Everyone turned their attention to me. Some were smiling, some giving me hugs and kisses. While other ignore and when I say others I mean Nathan. The one person I wanted to hug me or even speak to me stood there like a statue as if I didn't exist.
"Hi Nate." I said.
He nodded then walked away. I'm not sure why it hurts as much as it does. I expected it so why does it comes as a surprise. I grab a drink and gulp it down this was going to be a long night.
After spending hours catching up with old classmates, the party had died down. I looked at my phone for the time which read 10:30 PM. The time wasn't what caught my attention, it was the photos of Nathan and I that was my phones' wallpaper. It was a photo from a couple weeks before everything changed. We were so happy. I looked up from my phone and noticed Nathan standing on the deck outside. His back was towards me as he looked at the water. It's now or never. I made my way towards the deck, Bailey was sitting in a nearby chair. She looked at me with a smile before getting up and going back inside the house leaving Nathan and I alone. With a deep breath I walked over to Nathan. Here goes nothing.
