I walked out of the airport and saw the beautiful city which would be home to me for about the next 3 months. I was excited to start my new life. I looked around and saw a tall man wearing sunglasses and a suit. On the card he was holding was my name. Gracelyn De Lenfer. People called me Lyn for short. I was wearing my sweater and jeans. Due to the heat, I decided it might be best to change shirts later. I approached the man.

"Gracelyn?" He asked. I nodded back and smiled. He took my bag and I followed him to the car. I got in the passenger side and we drove off. We had a lot of small talk, mostly talking about the program. We finally arrived at the residence where I would be staying. He helped me to unload my bag and wished me good luck.

I took a deep breath as he drove away. I looked up, the building was around 4 stories high, each person having their own room. The building was white with many windows, the architecture was somewhat older. I began to wonder how old this program was, or what this building was used for before it was a residence for program winners. I realized I was just standing there doing nothing. I would leave the thinking to later.  I approached the man standing at the front of the building. He looked friendly enough

"I'm in room 323," I told him. He nodded and responded.

"Third floor and to the left, it should be one of the first rooms there." He held open the door for me and handed me a card. "If there's any problem with the room call this number."

"Thank you so much." I smiled and walked into the building. There was no elevator, so I would have to walk up the stairs. With all my luggage it would be hard. I had a suitcase which was extremely heavy considering I was the exact opposite of strong. My backpack was heavy as well. After about 10 minutes of attempting to haul my bags up the stairs and being the least bit successful, a girl came down the stairs. She jumped when she saw me.

"Sorry if I scared you!" I apologized, still holding my bag up so it wouldn't fall down.

"No it's ok, usually there's not people here, I guess since the programs back up..." She trailed off. "Oh sorry, I'm Kameron. Kam for short." She reached out for a handshake. We shook hands and she continued talking. "So I'm guessing you're a part of the program then?" I nodded and before I could say anything she continued to talk. "I used to be but I got a permanent job and now I live here, since there's nowhere else for me to go."

"I'm Lyn," I said quickly before she could start again. "As you can tell, I just moved in." I motioned to my bags.

"Do you want some help?" She offered. I nodded and she picked up my bag like it was nothing. We walked up the stairs to the third floor. I still struggled with the much lighter bag I was carrying.

"Here we go, he said to go left. My room is 323." We headed left and got to my room, I pulled out the keys which had been given to me through the mail. I opened to door and entered. We threw down my belongings and sat down on the bed. "Geez that was awful," I said laughing.

She stayed for about 10 minutes, she told me stories that made me laugh. Stories from when she was younger.  "Oh fuck." She stood up. "I have a meeting to get to." She grabbed her purse. "If you need me my room is on the fourth floor. Room 401." She rushed out, "it was so nice to meet you!" I hoped we would get to talk again soon. I was worried I would have no friends here, so hopefully I made a good impression.

After she left, I laid down on the bed. It wasn't as comfortable as my bed back at home but it would have to do. I looked up and around the room. The room was square shaped, in one corner a small kitchen with a microwave, stove, sink and a mini-fridge. In the corner adjacent was only a lamp and a desk. Near the entrance to the room was another door leading to the bathroom, which had a shower, sink and toilet. Overall the room was better than mine at home. And no annoying siblings who would come in whenever they pleased.

I decided to sleep until the next morning. It would be a long day. The first introduction ceremony started at 8:00 in the morning. So many new faces to remember and so many important people to meet. I would unpack later, knowing myself I would probably wake up much earlier than necessary. There would be plenty of time later. I set my alarm for 6:30 am and dozed off.
