The door opened and there they were. Hillary sat at the Oval Office desk and Bill sat on the couches in front of the desk, one leg resting on top of the other knee. He smiled as we entered the room.
"Well hello there!" He exclaimed standing up, Hillary followed and greeted us with a handshake.
"We're so glad to have you here. It's such an honor to have all of you here." She said, sounding actually genuine. She seemed like such a nice person. She shook my hand, I tried to keep a firm handshake, like I had been taught. I kept eye contact and smiled at her.
"It's really amazing to meet you Mrs. President." I said in a high pitched voice. Oh my god, I sounded like a nerd. I looked down at the floor and felt myself blushing. Hillary began to talk and I looked back up and saw the former president, Bill staring at me. How long had he been looking. I looked around and hoped no one else was thinking about how embarrassing that was for me. I was the only one who said anything, why did I do that. I looked back at Bill, he smiled at me, lifting up his hand and waving. I looked around and everyone else was looking towards Hillary. I waved back towards Bill and his smile got even bigger. I looked over towards Hillary and listened to her talk.
"I can't wait to start working with all of you tomorrow. I hope you all will feel welcome and I honestly am so excited hear your ideas." She smiled. A beep went off and Mrs. Clinton stared down at her pager. "Oh gosh, I'm sorry to cut this short, but I'm needed." Bill laughed a bit to himself. What the heck. "It was so nice to meet all of you!" She shook each of our hands and then waved goodbye as she exited the room.
"Alright I guess we should be going..." said our guide before seeing Bill standing up.
"Just a minute now, I have something to say to them." He smiled "Now I know I'm just the first lady, I mean, first gentleman..." There were a few giggles from the other students. He cleared his throat. "Well, anyways. I know you may not think there's much that I do. But I'm an icon. Just like Michelle Obama, I'm influential and people look up to me." I started thinking about his sex scandal. That's not very influential but ok. I personally thought he shouldn't be back in the office since so much had happened here. I thought about the court cases I had read. I looked over towards the bathroom and instantly remembered the part about Monica blowing him there. I noticed he was still talking and I looked at him with disgust, still not paying attention. It was all a lot to take in.
Billy continued for a good 10 minutes, during this time I pondered about what would've happened if daddy Trump would've been the president.
"Daddy..." I whispered to myself. It was too quiet for everyone to hear over Bill but he had seen my mouth making talking motions.
"Oh.. uh, is there something you wanna say..." He looked at my name tag. "Grace!" I shook my head but then thought of something quickly.
"Oh well actually, I just want to let you know, I think it's great that we have a first lady like you." He made an angry looking face. "First man, I meant first man." I spat out quickly. I smiled at him. "I, uhh, I really look forward to working with you."
He looked confused, and looked me over. At least now he probably likes me. He went on and I kept thinking about everything that has happened in this room. Lots f presidents have been in here, dead and living. That's really cool to me.
Bill finally finished up his long speech and explained to us that now our day was over. "Alright, sorry for taking time. I promise you can actually go now." He laughed to himself.
I started to walk out of the room, but I heard someone whisper my name. I turned around to see Bill Clinton motioning for me to come over. He was talking to a few of the other guys. I stood in line to wait and Katherine got behind me. She giggled, I turned around. I've never wanted to punch her more. I knew she was laughing about what I said. I didn't really care. The guy in front f me shook Bill's hand and stepped away.
"Hey," I started. "Did you want something?" He nodded.
"I wanna discuss something over dinner with you." I smiled a bit nervously. He looked worried, obviously he knew I was thinking he wanted a relationship. "No, it's not anything like that." He shook his head. "I wanna discuss your ideas on LGBT+ issues."I looked puzzled. "You said in your essay...." He paused. "Meet me here at 6 pm."
"Ok, I'll be there." I was really happy that someone with influential power finally wanted to talk about an issue which I cared very much about. Hopefully something will be able to be done about it.
I walked home and started to get ready. It was only 3pm, but I was still nervous. I reapplied my makeup, and chose a modest outfit. Even though he said it was just for talking, I still didn't trust that.
Hopefully something good will come out of this.
