There was a knock on the door. Oh no! Ginger Looked at her watch in suprise. Roy was here an hour early! She had just put the cake in 10 minutes ago.
Maybe it's not Roy she thought as she rushed to open the door. "Roy!" She exclaimed then slammed the door in his face.
Shoot! She slowly reopened it and peeked around the side; face red in embarrassment. Roy was starring at her with his hand still raised ready to knock. "Uh... Genevieve? You ok...?" "Oh! Yes. Of course. Why?"
What's she up to? The red haired fireman decided not to question it. "I know I'm early but" he shrugged "I guess I just couldn't stand to be away from you"
She sighed dreamily and let him in. "You always know the password to get past the door." He smiled in response. "Well you always know the password to my heart" "... that was probably the cheesiest sentence I've ever heard" Ginger replied taking his coat and hanging it up.
He grabbed her hand pulling her close. "Oh yeah?" "100%" she reassured shaking her head for emphasis.
They both laughed as they sat on the powder blue suede couch. Roy and Genevieve spent the next five minutes talking about anything and everything. Their days off last week, Genevieve's second job as an actress, music.
All their problems were temporarily lost when they were together. It was always like this. Always.
However, there was one problem that seemed determined to ruin everything. Roy paused mid sentence and brought attention to their unusually smokey surroundings. "We're you cooking something?"
"The cake!" Genevieve shouted. The pair burst through the kitchen doors just as the smoke alarms started going off. Ginger threw open the oven and was greeted by black smoke and the smell of burnt cake. She'd accidentally put the oven on high.
Roy opened the windows to help air out the house and turned off the smoke detectors in the. One could still be heard. "Did you get the one above the stairs?"
They went to the last remaining alarm. Genevieve jumped twice trying to reach the button and missing it both times. Roy jumped up behind her and the alarm stopped.
Ginger sat in defeat on the steps "Roy I'm so sorry." She sighed "I just wanted to give you the best most special birthday ever! But I ruined everything. I don't even have present for you."
He sat down beside her and wrapped his arms around her shoulders in a warm hug. "Oh Genevieve" he said softly "if you don't mind me being Cheesy again... your the best best gift I've ever had in my whole life."
She lifted her sparkling sapphire eyes to his sky blue ones. "I love you Roy DeSoto" "I love you too" Roy kissed the top of her head and they stayed wrapped in each others arms for the rest of his birthday.
