Ginny had never noticed that Madam Malkin had another part to her robe shop. But, there evidently was a door right next to the counter that opened to a staircase, which in turn led upstairs to a room overflowing with bridal dresses. The room was enlarged and there were dresses in every style and color a girl could imagine. The sight of them almost made Ginny faint. She had a feeling they would be there a while.
She and Hermione shared furtive glances, then they turned to gaze at their choices with Mrs. Weasley, and (regretably) Fleur. Hermione was now living with Ron, who had just gotten an apartment in London about three miles from Grimmauld Place. Therefore, she and Ginny had Apparated together to the Burrow, picked up Mrs. Wealsey and Fleur, and Apparated to Madam Malkin's Robe Shop.
"What colour should the bridesmade dresses be?" Hermione muttered so only Ginny could hear her.
"Well..." Ginny thought for a moment. She hadn't decided what the colours for anything should be yet, but she was leaning toward silver or gold. Maybe both would be nice.... and add some green to the gold, and her teammates would have a wonderful time. ( Green was also the colour of Harry's eyes. Not that Ginny had thought about that.) Finally, she made up her mind. Silver.
"Silver dresses. You can choose the style of your own, as long as it's silver."
"Thanks, Gin. Do you want help with your own dress?"Hermione asked.
"Just Mum, for now. You can look if you want," Ginny said distractedly, looking through a rack of fluffy white dresses. Picking out a few, she went to look for the fitting room.
"Check the corner, Ginny," Mrs. Weasley suggested as she pulled a few more long dresses from a rack.
"Looking for the dressing room, dears?" The honeylike voice fo Madam Malkin called from the back. "It's in the left corner," a plump woman appeared, pointing." Yes, right over there, love."
"Thank you, Madam Malkin," Hermione said, handing a white dress to Ginny as she went to try on a few silver gowns in one of the dressing room stalls.
"Would you like some help, love?" Madam Malkin asked, and without waiting for an answer, she pulled out her wand and made the dresses in Ginny's arms float in the air to form a neat line."Which one would you like to try first?"
"This one, I guess," Ginny said, taking it from the air, and entering one of the stalls. Madam Malkin followed, and helped fit the dress to Ginny's figure perfectly with a series of charms. As they walked out, Mrs. Weasley choked up. Hermione and Fleur stood on either side of her in silver gowns, patting her shoulders as they all gazed at Ginny. The dress was only the first, and it was still so beautiful... It was a straight satin gown, pure white and strapless, with silver beads embroidered onto the bottom, each one glittering like a thousand tiny stars on the fabric. The neckline was heart-shaped, dotted here and there with the same beads as the bottom. They put that one on the rack of potentials.
The next was the one Mrs. Weasley had picked; a creamy tulle ball gown, that seemed a bit too big and fluffy in Ginny's opinion, but it was still nice. Just not for her. Fleur had chosen a silk gown that was a little too revealing, as it had a plunging neckline and a slit down the side of the legs. Ginny tried on dress after dress, and still became more frustrated. There were about four in the 'maybe' pile, and she had tried on at least twenty. The ones in the pile consisted of a simple white princess dress that fell to her knees(Fleur's choice), a creamy, lacy sheath-style, a wrap-around with a hem that dragged the ground,(both Mrs. Weasley's choices) and the silver beaded one that she had tried on first.
Hermione's pick was by far more beautiful than any others. She had only chosen one, of course, but Ginny had a feeling it was the one. The hem came to her ankles in the front, then tapered to form a train of silver lace that dragged the gound. It was pure white, with a horizontal neckline that was also trimmed with elegant silver lace. The silk was soft, and it was tight from the waist up, and that seemed to complement Ginny's figure. From the waist down, the the the dress tapered outward. A layer of lace-embroidered sheer covered the hem. Ginny loved this one; it fit, and it looked good on her. The only thing to worry about was the price...no one knew what it was, yet. Madam Malkin had retreated to the back to find what the price was, while uhe four ladies sat admiring it and biting their fingernails.
"350 Galleons, my dears." Madam Malkin announced. "Is that within budget?" She added.
"Yes," sighed Ginny with relief. She had expected any dress to be at least 900 Galleons. The fact that the one she wanted most was so cheap felt like a gift from Heaven. Harry had given her 1,100 Galleons to spend on her dress;
"I'm just a little disappointed that I can't see it until the wedding," he had said, handing her a leather bag that he had bewitched to make light as a feather.
As Madam Malkin put the dress in a bag and they put the other wedding dresses back, it was time for the bridesmaids to start choosing their gowns. A few hours later, Fleur had bought a knee-length a-line, Mrs. Weasley had a floor-length tent-style, and Hermione a floor-length wrap-around that gathered at one side of her waist. All of which were silver, of course.*
After a long day of dress shopping, the four women parted ways at the robe shop. They Apparated to their own homes, where their husbands, boyfriend, or fiancé greeted them them each with open arms and a kiss.*The picture up top is what I had in mind when I described the dresses, though I apologize if you don't think I'm much of an artist.[I'm more of a complicated coloring kind of person] I shaded the sheer light gray on the wedding dress.
