Axel's POV
She looked so eager to start our adventure...
I felt my face grow hot.
Does she like me? Like... more than a friend?
I looked at her smiling face, beaming with the thought of finding our friends.
"So...I figured we'd check around the old builder's temple.... then head to that cave we stayed in before setting out for Ivor's fortress...."
"But they went to the temple!" I objected.
"And it's good to start at a place we know how to get to." Retorted Olivia.
"...Fine." I growled.
It was midday, and even though the sun was shining- it was freezing.
Not too cold, but I get cold easily.
My glass bubble helmet was fogging up, and was starting to block my vision.
Olivia looked at me, smirking.
She took her finger, drawing a heart on the foggy surface.
"Stop doodling on my helmet..." I teased.
"I'll doodle on your helmet if I want to!" Muttered Olivia, completely stopping to doodle on the glass.
"Here..." I smile, pulling off the helmet. "Just.,. Doodle whatever. We need to see where we are, exactly."
Olivia took it, tracing the shiny surface with her fingers.
I looked around, trying to find anything I recognized.
The witherstorm had left nothing, and even though Lukas and the rest of us have been working on the town...
We haven't touched the land surrounding it.
It was ripped up and torn apart, the rock layers disturbed.
I looked around, seeing a gnarled tree trunk, most of the leaves gone.
It towered above us, and it looked sickeningly familiar.
"What's the matter, Axel?" Asked Olivia, smiling. "Are you scared of-" she looked at the tree her smile melting.
"I-is that..." Olivia stopped talking, walking to the tree.
I walked to it with her, my heart pounding.
We stopped at the trunk, seeing dried dark blood on the trunk, as well as in the ground.
"I...I remember this place..." croaked Olivia. "It's the place where Ellegaard died..."
I remember it now.
I can just see Sorren and the old order gathering around Ellie before she died, before the witherstorm came.
"Ellie..." sniffed Olivia.
Suddenly, I saw a figure appear, its shadowy body under the effects of an invisibility potion.
It raised a sword, about to stab Olivia-
When I threw my sword.
It lodged in the man's chest, sending him falling to the earth.
"AXEL!" Screamed Olivia, running to the man.
Before she could reach him, he disappeared into a cloud of black smoke.
Olivia glared at me.
"WHY DID YOU DO THAT?!" Snarled Olivia.
I don't know........ i DONT... i just feel like he was bad news......
"He just... I feel like he wasn't good." I sighed, taking my sword from the ground.
People don't usually disappear into black smoke. In fact- they usually don't disappear at all.
"I...feel like that, too..." muttered Olivia, handing me my glass helmet. "But that doesn't mean we should be killing people."
She walked away from the tree, with me following her, and we started walking east.
Olivia's POV
I pointed to a cave, it's large mouth opening up before us.
"This should be a decent place to sleep." I huffed, taking out materials to make a torch. "It will keep us away from the cold."
I made the torch, handing it to Axel.
Immediately, the cave glowed with soft orange light.
Axel looked at the cave, his eyes wide with fear.
"What's the matter?" I teased. "Scared?"
"Huh?" Asked Axel. "...No. I'm not scared."
I smirked, pulling out my bow.
"Suuure, Axel." I grumbled.
We walked into the mouth of the cave, the walls of it immediately making me claustrophobic.
I sat down on the stone floor, the walls dripping.
Axel sat down next to me, lighting a wooden log on fire with the torch.
We didn't have a fire pit- so we'd have to try not to catch ourselves on fire.
We sat in silence, the fire crackling in the dark.
"Do you ever feel like... like nobody cares about us?" I asked. "Like... we're the nobody's of the order?"
Axel smirked.
"If you ask me- I'd say we're pretty damn-important." Sighed Axel, pulling out cake from his bag.
I stifled a laugh, looking at the dull rock.
"Want some cake?" Asked Axel.
I looked to him, seeing mini plates, forks... and everything.
"I-uh..." I smiled. "Sure."
Was this a date? No, this totally wasn't a date... were just out on a quest, and he brought food. Classic Axel.
I took a plate with cake on it, but I didn't eat it.
I kept thinking about the dead figure, the thought making me sick.
"Axel... I feel really bad about killing that man... I mean, what if he was innocent? What if he-"
"Just. Stop. You're overreacting. We killed one person. One. And there's seven billion other people to take his place!"
"But-"
"SEVEN. BILLION. PEOPLE. Now, eat your cake and shut the hell up."
A smile crept into his face, letting me know he didn't mean to be rude.
I felt my face getting hot, the fire casting orange light on his face.
I felt my eyelids get heavy, my world going dark.
Axel's POV
She closed her eyes, not moving.
"Olivia?" I asked, softly brushing hair from her face.
No response.
Just quiet snoring.
I leaned back against the cave wall, it's surface cold.
I'll be up on watch- even though I'm not sure we need one.
Oh well... better safe than sorry.
I looked over to Olivia, who had curled into a ball.
Even though the fire was crackling, it was still freezing in the cave.
She looked extremely cold.
I don't know if she'd like it, but I'm going to give her my jacket anyway.
I unzipped my jacket, draping it over her.
I smiled, moving right next to the fire.
The faintest whistling sound was coming from outside, leaves flying by in the howling wind.
Don't fall asleep.
You have to keep watch and protect Olivia.
I pulled my sword out of its sheath, clenching the handle in my cold fingers.
I looked back to Olivia, who looked peaceful.
"Goodnight, Olivia." I whispered, staring back out at the cave mouth.
