The dear on her back got heavier with every step she took. By the time she got back to her camp, her legs shaking under the weight of the deer. But Eldur didn't care about that. She had the deer. Eldur could taste the meat in her mouth. She got it. She dropped the deer caucus on the frozen ground. Eldur stared at it. The cuts on the deer were deeper and thicker than those made by a dagger. It looked like it had been clawed to death. A shiver went down Eldur's spine. What beast could have done this?

Pushing that thought aside, Eldur walked over and put her bow and arrows down. The familiar crunch of the leaves putting her at ease. She picked up her knife and walked back to her dinner. Her stomach growled again, this time a painful roar. Eldur looked down at her hands, then to the deer. Eating cooked meat would be much more filling, and definitely more appetizing. She glanced around her, then looked back at her hands. Eldur's hand suddenly went up in bright orange flames. The fire tickling her fingers as the heat warmed her face. She smiled down at the blaze of light emitting from her hands. It had been a long time since she did that. She missed the feeling of heat in her hands. The feeling of being in control of her surroundings. With grace, she set the deer on fire. Cooking it to perfection. She could smell the cooked meat, and she started to drool. Just as quickly as it appeared, the fire was gone. Elder tore off a handful of meat and stuffed it in her mouth. Her heart exploded as if it had just started beating. She fell to the ground, her mouth blazing with flavor. Smiling, she pointed up to the sky, shooting sparks out the tips of her fingers in celebration. The sparks danced like fireflies towards the ground. Lighting up the darkness of the woods.

Even thought it was hard to, Eldur stopped herself from eating all of the deer in one sitting. She made sure to put her bag high in a tree where no one could get to it. She had climbed the highest spruce tree and tied the bag around one of the high branches. She couldn't waste losing even more food. Especially meat from this big of a deer.

Eldur was still very hesitant with using her powers. It's had been getting colder each day and she needed to make a fire. With little effort, Eldur had a fire in no time. She quickly fell asleep under the stars beside the heat of the flames. The fire dimmed down as Eldur's breathing evened.

Eldur woke up to the unmistakable crunching of leaves behind her. She slowly opened her eyes, making sure not to move. Whatever it was, it still thought she was asleep. At first she thought it was just a pesky raccoon, but then she heard him.

"Hey, don't touch that." He said in a low whisper. "I'll go catch you a raccoon later." Eldur couldn't help but whip around to stare into his eyes. He too looked surprised. His golden-brown eyes full of panic. He most certainly didn't see her sleeping there.

"Who are you." Eldur could barely get the words out. She was focused on the lion-like beast sitting next to him. It was the size of a small horse, and could definitely kill her in one bite if it wanted to.

"I'm Raki," he said steadily,"this is Makka." He then gestured to the beast. "And you?"

"I'm Eldur and you're trespassing on my land. What makes you think you can just waltz over here in the middle of the night while I'm sleeping?" Eldur growled.

"Ooh, feisty are we?" He smirked, looking back at Makka as if he understood what Raki was saying. He then looked back at Eldur, who started to back away.

"You really don't want to mess with me." She tried to sound fierce. "Just, leave me alone."

Eldur hadn't been around another human for a long time. She looked him up and down. His long dusky hair tangled down his shoulders, knotted with leaves and sticks. His honeyed-brown eyes shined like the stars. They darted up and down her body, as if he was examining her as well. They stood there for a long time. The frigid autumn wind bite at their noses. After an eternity, Raki finally spoke.

"You must be cold. You know, with no coat." He started to pull off his fur cape and walked towards her.

"No, no." She put her hand up, and felt it burning with rage. She quickly snapped it behind her back and looked at him. "No, it's okay. I, uh, made a fire." She forced a smile. Whoever this guy was, she did not want to get on his bad side.

"Oh, about that," he put his coat back on,"I saw sparks flying up from here. I thought you started a forest fire." He smiled.

Eldur stiffened. "No, that was just the fire. No need to worry. You can leave now."

Raki smile disappeared. "Eldur, there's no reason to lie to me. I know what you are."
