There was not a hint of clouds in the sky. The park was empty and quiet and so was the familiar town around it. Its tree’s gently swayed back and forward, rustling in the wind. Emily sat at the park bench, taking in the spring breeze. She wore a well fitted red coat over a white dress. Her brown locks framed her face.

“Emily,” said a voice. Emily looked and sitting on her left was William. He was wearing his grey suede suit, his top hat rested in his lap. His hair was gelled back as usual, “You look beautiful today Emily.”

Emily smiled, “Why thankyou William, you’re too kind, really.”

“While you were gone I hope you don’t mind, I’ve gone and chosen a date,” He put his hand on hers.

“A date for what?”

“Our wedding of course. Your mother has already prepared your dress. Almost everything is covered. Tomorrow we will go look for a ring.”

Before Emily could protest, a third voice joined the conversation, “You’re getting married?”

Emily looked to her right. Leaning against a tree in his usual white cotton shirt, brown pants, and black boots was Jack. His hair was a ruffled heap on his head.

“Jack I-?”

“Actually yes we are,” William said defensively, “Indeed.”

Emily looked at William in disbelief, “Why are you talking like this. We’re not getting married.”

“Emily, is it true?” Jack said, getting off the tree. His eyes were soft and sad.

“No Jack I swear-”

“Were getting married,” William said standing up, “She doesn’t know what she’s talking about.”

“Well,” Jack raised an eyebrow, “I can see where I’m not wanted.” He turned around and started to walk away.

“Jack wait,” Emily called, “Jack.”

No matter how much he called Jack kept walking. He walked into the town as if disappearing into a painting. Never to return.

THUD! “Ow,” Emily mumbled as her head hit the floor, “You stupid boat!” She slammed her fists into the wooden floorboards sleepily.

The boat had jerked suddenly and Emily was flung off the bed and onto the floor. Somehow Jack didn’t even budge, but Emily could hear his muffled voice inside his pillow, “ Yeknhoyl hipabot as much as ye lybut it’s just a boat, Silly Women.”

Emily frowned, picking herself up from the floor and sitting herself on the bed. Jack stirred a little, before falling into sleep again.

BANG, BANG, BANG. Someone was knocking abruptly on the door, “Oh God,” Jack grumbled, “What now?”

They banged again.

“Come in,” Jack mumbled. They knocked again.

Jack barked, “For Pete’s sake, COME IN!”

The door opened and in strode the midget- the one that had directed Emily to the captain’s cabin. He had a startled expression on his face as though he was shocked to see Emily there. Emily was a little embarrassed. The only person in the room who wasn’t fazed by the arrangement seemed to be Jack. “What now, Don!” Jack groaned sitting up and yawning.
