Frederick Douglass, Sojourner Truth
improved the new generations
creating better lives for the youth.

keeping us from insurrection,
protecting us from battered backs
crafted by the oppressors.

rope-free, lynched-not
the ability to walk on land ,
brothers as free men,
without hunched in chains,
traded as property like gold and iron
but less respected and more wired.

sojourner truth,
abolitionist
the ventriloquist
hypnotizing and all mighty
risking her life for the upcoming
Black beauty to be greater in the social ladder and hierarchy.

Tubman ran, and Douglass fought.
so, Parks could sit
King Jr. could dream
X could lead
Hughes could write
Robinson could play
Baker and Ailey could dance
Angelou can rise
Carson could study
Davis could teach
to then malnourish the courage for Barack to run for our country.

and then more.

to the orators
and the activists
abolitionists and humanitarians,
providing a life where
black men and women do not cower.

here is to black power.
