The first thing I notice about Grandma is how old and frail she looks. The first thing she says is "Oh look who it is. My sweet, beautiful Annie. Come give me a hug." I walk over and give her a hug. She smells like vanilla. Vanilla and Lilac.

Grandma has John take my stuff to the guest room and tells me to go sit at the table. I go and sit down at the table and grandma puts a plate of cookies and a glass of milk down in front of me. I grab a cookie and grandma starts talking.

"How have you been?" She asks. "I haven't seen you for quite some time".

"I've been good" Well I was good until my whole summer was ruined, but I wasn't going to tell her that.

"Well that's good." She says with a smile. "Darling, you look tired. Why don't you go on and take a little nap. I'll have John wake you a little later so he can show you around town."

:Okay grandma" Was all I said. I get up and walk to the guest room. When I get in there I cant seem to sleep. I just lay there wide awake, thinking of how shitty my summer is going to be, and not looking forward to any of it.

After a few hours someone knocks on my door. I open it up to fin John on the other side.

"Grandma says I'm supposed to show you around town. Are you ready?" He asks, not looking to happy about doing it.

"yeah, I'm ready. Lemme get my shoes on though." I reply, not really wanting to go either.

"Okay. I'll meet you in the car then." He says as he turns around and walks toward the kitchen to get the car keys.

I put on my shoes and walk out to the car. I get in and we start towards town. It was an awkward, silent fifteen minutes. Once we arrived he tells me where the store is, which I then find out that I will be going there twice a week for grandma. Then he shows me the two most popular hang out spots, which is the Pizza Parlor, and the park. I tell John I'm hungry and he says we would stop by the Pizza Parlor and get a bite to eat.

The place is small, packed. But we found a booth in the back. We ordered a large pizza with pepperoni, Italian sausage, and black and green olives. As we were waiting two guys come up to our table and start talking with John. Finally after a good ten minutes John decides to introduce me to his friends.

"Annie this is my friend Mark" He says as he points to the tall, lanky, kinda cute, freckle-faced, red-head. "And this is Brian" He says pointing to the muscular, dark-haired hottie.

Brian, Mark, this is my cousin Annie. She's here for the summer helping out with our grandma" John says smiling at me.

"Hi" Brian and Mark both say.

"Hi" I say back. I feel kinda awkward for a moment because we just kinda sit there in silence. Just then our pizza arrives.

"You guys wanna Join us? I don't think Annie and I could eat this whole pizza."

:Sure" Brian says as he sits across from me, and Mark slides in next to me. We start eating the pizza and the guys start talking about some party tonight out by a lake. Brian looks over at me and asks if I'm going to come with John and I say " I don't know, I guess if that's alright with you John?"

"Yeah, that's cool. You could meet some of my friends." He says smiling.

So I'm going to a party tonight. My first night in Arizona and I'm already going to a party. Damn. After we finish the pizza and pay, John tells Mark and Brian that we'll see the later tonight at the party. They say "cool. Later." And head on there way. John and I walk to the car and I ask him if were going anywhere else.

"No. I think I've showed you just about everything there is in this town, so I think we can head back to grandmas." He says pulling out of the parking lot.

"Okay" I say as he takes the road toward grandmas house. This time the fifteen minutes goes by way faster. When we pull into the driveway I see grandma out in the rocking chair on the front porch drinking sweet iced-tea.

"Hey grandma." John calls as he gets out of the car.

"Hi you two. Did you have fun Annie?" She asks as I make my way up the steps of the porch.

"Yeah sure. We stopped for a bite to eat at the Pizza Parlor and I met two of Johns friends." I say trying to sound excited.

"Well that's nice. Do you like the town?" Grandma asks me.

"yeah, I guess. Its really small though." I say

"That's the best part about it Annie." She says with a big smile. "Hey did John show you where the store was?"

"Yeah, he did." I say.

"Good because I'm gonna need you to go into town tomorrow to pick up a few things." She says

"Yeah sure no problem. Will John be taking me or will I be driving myself?" I ask her not really wanting to do it at all.

:Oh , well you can just drive yourself dear." She says smiling.

"Okay. Yeah that would be fine." I say. " I can do that." And with that I turn to the door and walk straight to the guest room. When I get in there I shut the door and decide to unpack my suitcases. It takes me about an hour and a half. Then someone knocks on my door, I open up to see John again.

"Hey, I'm gonna leave to go to the party in about forty-five minutes." He says.

"Okay. I'll be ready in about thirty minutes." I shut the door and go to pick out an outfit to wear. it takes me fifteen minutes to decide but I finally choose a neon green tank top, and a pair of ripped shorts. I go to the brush my hair, then head to the living room where John is.

"Hey I'm ready. We can go whenever." I say to him.

"Okay well I'm ready too so lets go." We head out to the car and start to drive. Instead of going toward town, we take a left. I see a sign that says MEADOW VIEW LAKE, and that's where we turn. There is a crap ton of cars. Like ALOT. And a bunch of people. A BUNCH. We park the car and get out. John walks toward the heart of the party and I follow close behind not wanting to get lost.

Suddenly some grabs me from behind and I let out a scream. I turn around to see Brian.

"God Damn you! You scared the shit out of me!" I practically yell at him.

"Yeah that was kinda the point." He says with a smart-ass grin on his face.

"Hey Brian, where's Mark?" John asks

"Over there by the edge of the lake." He says pointing towards the lake.

John looks at me and says "Imma go find Mark. Why don't you stay here with Brian."

"Uhh.. Sure." I say, not really quite sure what to think.

As he walks away Brian asks if I want a drink.

"Umm.. sure.. What kind?" I ask

"Beer" He replies.

"Yeah. Sure. Thanks." I say

He goes and gets me a beer, And I just stand there awkwardly waiting for him to get back. When he gets back, he hands me the beer and asks me how I'm liking  Arizona and this shitty little town.

"Its OK I guess, I mean I've only been here for a day. Although this isn't exactly how I planned on spending my summer." I say to him.

"Yeah. Its an OK town, but not a lot happens." He says with a goofy grin on his face.

"Haha, yeah I figured as much." I say laughing. Just then John walks back up with Mark.

"Hey." Mark says. I reply with a hi. We stay for about another hour, then we head home. When we get there I go to the guest room, closed the door, take off my shirt and shorts, and collapse on the bed.

I start to think about my day. It wasn't that bad actually. Yeah the town is small but its nice and quiet. I could actually get used to a summer like this. Now all I need is summer love. And that's exactly what I find, my summer love. But not the kind I was wanting.
