It was finally lunch.

And I was starving.

The only hope was: free food.

As Rachel was in charge of the bake-fest, I could get one muffin for free.

The place was crowded and there were people breathing on me. I did, of course, hate the violation of space, but there was no point in picking a fight right now. I kept swimming through the crowd to reach the table where the goodies were being sold. It was Rachel's idea to hold to bake-fest in the cafeteria -- just sadly, only one table could be afforded.

When I managed to reach the table, however, I realised that there was a problem of being understaffed. So, I decided to go to the other side of the table and help sell (and help myself eat) the cookies, muffins and cakes. "Hey, Amber. Where's Rach?" I asked.

She sighed and shrugged. "No idea. She said she'd be back in a minute and that she 'felt weird.' Then, she just vanished. Do you have any class until two?"

"Hm. That is weird. Hm, yeah, but I'll stay. You're clearly understaffed."

She huffed and then muttered, "And I thought it was understaffed with just Rachel and me."

I smiled and continued with the tedious task.

"I'm glad it's you, though." said Amber. "Like, 'cause you're Rachel's roommate and all, you know, you know some stuff."

I scoffed. "Yeah. Also, do you want a cookie?"

She raised her eyebrows at me. "You're the only one explaining the case of the unaccounted cookies to Rachel, sweet-cake."

"I take that as a pass?"

She grinned. "Just... not now, cupcake."

"Alright, honey." I said, munching the chocolate cookie.

Soon enough, it became easier to sell and collect the money. Not because I was getting used to it, but because it had gotten less crowded.

"So, Amber." I announced, rather bored.

"Hm."

"Did Rach say anything else?"

"Not a thing, hon. That was it. That she 'felt weird.'"

"I see."

I suppose I was going to have to try some other way of getting it out of her. I knew she knew something -- just my gut feeling. Moreover, Amber seems like the kind of person who seemed void of emotion. Like, the kinda person who just seemed empty. The only reason Rach had been working with her was due to the extra funding which she needed.

I looked at my watch, it was one-thirty.

Good enough.

"Hey, Amber, I gotta go now, yeah. Good luck!"

She huffed. "Bye!"

With that, I walked away, contemplating two things: one, my next plan of attack and two, whether I should go to my next class. I sighed, and at least decided on going to class as that would help my grade.

My heart stopped.

There was something on my waist.

Someone's hand.

I tried pulling away, but someone was pulling me.

I pushed and I was pulled.

I looked to find a sign of who was it.

Some latino guy who didn't go to this school.

I tried pulling again.

"Hey. Wait!" he said. I could make out that he spoke some Spanish.

"What the Hell?"

He sighed. "You're Mary Lane?"

"Sort of." I breathed.

"Rachel's roommate."

"Rachel...?"

"Elizabeth Dare."

"Dunno anyone with name." I protested.

He pulled me closer. "Mary Lane. Rachel's missing."

The resistance failed and I froze. I could feel him breathing on me.

I could feel his body heat and upon realising the proximity, I pulled back.

"Who are you?"

He sighed, "Leo Valdez."
