"You are very lucky. You're eye doesn't seem to be damaged, but there will be scarring." The nurse, Jen murmurs as she bandages Ben up.
"She shouldn't have even come at me with that whip. It's only for breaking up serious fights and you can't touch another wolf with it," he mutters.
"Alice shouldn't have, but she did. Your father is talking to her, but I want you to keep out of trouble for the next day until your skin heals enough to take these out. This cut is really deep, but with the medicine, you can still change with your lower wolves."
He hops off the table and stalks out of the room. He didn't even get to the staircase unnoticed. Snip walks by unharmed with a smirking Alice latched on his arm.  Tough luck! Snip sends to him through their thoughts.

Soon, his mind it taken over by the thoughts of wolves. Barely anything goes unnoticed in the pack. Ben quickly closes his mind to the others and pushes his way through the curious wolves to his room.
"Ben, she denied everything," his father reports. "Luckily for us, we got it all on tape. All the elders agree that she will have to confess or leave the pack with Snip. Snip clearly made the first move, but Alice stepped in unnecessarily."

Ben listens as his father's footsteps retreat. He lays down on is bed and stares up at the ceiling as his skin repairs itself.

The next morning he heads straight down to Jen's office. Sitting still as a statue, he lets her take the stitches out. After a few minutes, she is done and there's only a few specks of blood. Wincing, he looks at himself in the mirror.
His former tanned face was marred by a faint pink line running from his left eyebrow through the corner of his left eye, over the bridge of his nose, and ending on the far side of his right cheek. It wasn't that bad. Groaning, he exits her office and heads into the backyard.

Pushing his way through the tall grass, he comes upon a small four stall barn. Inside are two Thoroughbreds and one Friesian. He quickly grabs his saddle and tacks up the Friesian, who he calls Avatar. After mounting, he trots to the end of the field and into the woods.
He collects Avatar into a canter and neatly jumps a small fallen log.

After about a mile, he comes upon a small creek. On the other side is a small cabin. He quickly dismounts and goes inside. A young, tall woman is inside with a knife tucked in her belt.
"Hello son," she purrs.
"Mother," he replies curtly.
"You're on time today. What happened to your face?" She gasps as she notices the scar.
"Snip's mate hit my face in wolf form with the whip. This doesn't mean I'll join your pack." He admits.
"You'd be so much safer though, son. If you don't become Alpha, then you will join my pack and you will help us overtake your father." She snaps.
"Yes mother" he relents.
"Now get back before they notice they you're gone. They cannot know that I am alive and that you have been with me." She dictates.

goodbye mother!
bye, my son.. I know you found your mate. It wasn't a coincidence that you found her.

What does that mean? he thinks as he rides Avatar homeward.
