Tyranna"I'll be alright mom. I promise" Tyranna smiled. She was leaning on the kitchen table, watching her mother scurry around the house, making sure that everything was alright.
"Are you sure Tyranna? I mean, I can cancel this trip" her mother said, biting her lower lip in anguish. "I am positive. And plus you can't. Its non-refundable. I am going to be alright. I haven't had any dreams for the past week. I am perfectly alright" she smiled. "You sure?" Her mother asked again. Tyranna could see the stress in her mother's eyes. She had never been like that before. And Tyranna desperately wanted things to go back to the way they were before.
"Yes. Silone is coming over to keep me company, we have to work on a science project. So, its not like I'll be alone" Tyranna said. Her mother smiled. "Silone, yeah. You've been spending a lot of time with him lately" her mother smiled. "He just came to visit me yesterday, and the day before. But that's it. Were just friends mom" Tyranna said. "And Denise? I haven't heard from her in forever" her mother said, frowning. "She's been sick with flu the whole week. I'm thinking of stopping by her tomorrow. To see if she's alright" Tyranna said. "Alright. I love you baby. See you tomorrow night" her mother smiled as she pulled Tyranna into a hug as if Tyranna were a small child. Tyranna took in her mother's scent. A smell she would never forget. Sweetness mixed with lavender and her hair smelled of strawberry shampoo. "I love you too" Tyranna said, enjoying being a little girl for a second again. Then the second ended as soon as it had begun. Her mother pulled away and walked to her room to get her bags.
Her mother returned a few seconds after, with a large suitcase behind her. "Mom. Aren't you just supposed to be there for two days and a night?" Tyranna asked, frowning at the large suitcase. "I just couldn't decide what to wear" her mother said, a goofy smile on her face. Tyranna just shook her head, and smiled. "Alright. I should get going, or else I will miss my flight. Her mother smiled. "Enjoy New York mom" Tyranna smiled. It was only a two hour flight, and her mother had offered for her to come with her, but Tyranna had came up with a bunch of excuses, not feeling like traveling.
Her mother left after a last goodbye, and Tyranna locked the door behind her. She stood in the empty house. Sighing to herself. She was actually excited about Silone's visit, not because she liked science projects, but something about him made her at ease. His presence alone made her feel safe. His soft humoristic character made her happy, and his brown eyes could read straight into her.
They had always been friends, but it was different. She had never felt butterflies in her stomach each time she saw him. She had never smiled at the thought of his light brown hair and shy smile. Her entire heart warmed up at the thought of seeing him again.
Why was she feeling this way? Silone had been her friend for the longest of times. For eleven full years, and all of a sudden, these feelings had come to her. Suddenly she heard a knock on the door.
Her mother had probably forgotten something. Tyranna opened the door, a smile still on her face.
Her smile disappeared. It wasn't her mother. Tyranna slammed the door in the face of the perfectly masked stranger and she quickly locked the door, her heart starting to beat at an uncontrollable rate. She paced around looking for her cellphone.
When she heard a kick against the door, she let out a gasp. She didn't know what to do. Call 911, that was the first option, but she was too panicked. Her knees were weak, and her entire body shook with fear. She heard another hard kick, the door was starting to give in.
She swallowed hard. Think Tyranna, think, she said, trying to calm herself down. She saw the computer stand, and decided that maybe if she hid, the person wouldn't find her. She hoped so,as she darted behind the stand. She sat there, her breath came unsteadily. She heard another kick, and the thump of the door falling to the ground made her close her eyes tightly. She prayed that it was a dream, but the sounds of footsteps around the house made it clear that it wasn't. "Where are you? Come on. I won't hurt you" a female voice said, as if calling a dog.
"Tyranna. Is that how I say your name?" She asked hesitantly into nowhere. Tyranna's blood ran cold. How did this woman know her name? Why did she know her name? Tyranna had hoped that it had just been a burglar, that would take what they want and leave, but this lady wasn't a burglar. Tyranna's worst fear had been confirmed. It was about her dreams. It couldn't possibly be about anything else. "I wont bite, I only want to talk" the voice continued. The masked lady was walking further and further away from the doorway, and Tyranna saw the opening. She could make it. Everything told her that it was a bad idea, she had never been very athletic, and what if this person was faster than her? It was a risk. A dangerous risk. But it was a risk that she would take. She sucked in a breath and darted for the doorway. Her legs were wobbly beneath her, and she felt like she would lose balance. She ran out of the doorway, and her clumsy side took control of her legs. She felt herself stumble, and she tripped, her head hitting the hard cement. She blinked, and everything was a blurred illusion for a second.
Then, she saw darkness.
Mr. Enrique PaldregoEnrique turned the key in his door and entered his house. He locked the door again, and placed his keys on the black ornate coffee table. As he walked to his room, the echoes of his footsteps was all he heard.
He sighed. He had the perfect life, or so it seemed. He had a mansion for a house and his car was top of the range. Everyone regarded him as lucky, but he didn't regard failure as luck. He walked to his bedside table and picked up the photo of his wife and daughter. They had been so happy together. A perfect little family.
That had been before he had become so greedy and hungry for money. Now all he longed for, was to see his wife's beautiful smile and eager eyes in front of him again. And his daughter's playful nature and mischievous pranks.
But they had died in a car accident, and he partly blamed himself for it. He had pushed Rosette too far, and then she had left, and that same night she had gotten in an accident, and she and his daughter Tula had died. He sat down on his bed. He missed them every day.
He was so preoccupied with work, he had always been. And what had all his hard work been for? A fancy car, that could easily be replaced? A house, filled with nothing but loneliness, and sad memories? Had his wife and daughter's death really been worth all the riches he now had?
He would trade anything to see them again. Anything. But sadly, it was too late. His hard work had gained him nothing but sadness. But he couldn't give up. He had committed himself to this job, and he would get it done. After all, his hands were dirty already.
Dirty with the blood of others lives he had willingly taken.
