Our story opens to a dimly lit apartment, with our hero Nick Wilde laying on a small sofa. His fur was matted and his eyes had dark bags under them. The poor fox hadn't slept all day, due to his new job as deputy police officer to Judy Hopps, his friend and partner.
Recently, Nick had begun to notice Judy a little differently than he had before. And she had been acting a lot different recently. The way she carried herself around him, it was much like that of a giddy school girl. He stared up at the ceiling briefly, drinking up his thoughts.
Immediately however, his thoughts were interrupted by his phone vibrating, indicating he had received a message. He quickly opened it up.
NEW MESSAGE FROM: Judy Hopps
Judy: Hey Nick! Just got home! Eating a bit of food before I "hit the sack." You awake?
Nick smiled lightly, replying almost instantly to the energetic bunny.
Nick: Nope, sleep texting.
Judy: You're not funny.
Nick: Aren't I?
Judy: No. That joke made me cringe. Like, a lot.
Nick gave off a slight chuckle, replying again.
Nick: Now that sounds like something funny.
Judy: Huh?
Nick: You, all cringy.
Nick: HNNNNG....
Judy: ...
Judy: 😑
Judy: Ugh.
Nick: Ooga booga.
Immediately Nick bursted into a fit of hysterical laughter, laughing to the point of tears at his response. It was fun to poke and tease at the bunny, especially in person. But her reaction over text, just as priceless. "Ohhh gosh what is wrong with me?" He asked out with a shaky sigh of relief.
Judy: I can't even. Wtf Nick?
Nick: Idek! I'm dying! Lmao!!1!
Judy: Easy tiger.
Nick: Ohhh man, I love our talks.
Judy: 😀 Me too Nick.
Immediately Nick smiled, feeling a sensation of warmth spread over him. There was just something about spending time with Judy that really made his day. He'd be glum one minute, happy the next, and it would all be because of her. He just couldn't describe it... it was like floating on air.
Nick: *Yawn* Alright carrots. I'm gonna hit the hay. You should too. Big day tomorrow no?
Judy: Doi! It's only, what, our 1-year anniversary as members of the ZPD?!
Nick: Yeah! All thanks to you. If it wasn't for you, I'd still be a street hustler.
Judy: If it wasn't for you, I would've lost my job!
Nick smiled, trying not to let it go to his head.
Nick: Well if it wasn't for you I'd probably be in a "predator concentration camp" by now.
Judy: If it wasn't for you... I wouldn't of had such a great friend to stick by me these past months.
Suddenly Nick's mouth hung open. The warmth he had felt before was replaced with an even brighter, more indescribable feeling. He could feel his cheeks heat up a little, and he felt that he could shed a tear.
She valued him as a friend...
She was his best friend.
Nick: Wow carrots... that means a lot... thank you.
Judy: Yw Nick. Gn now.
Nick: Night.
With a dreamy sigh, the fox found himself slowly slipping into the land of dreams. Happily nodding off as he thought of him and Judy's past year together.
