Mrs. Tate: How did you feel when Sal Mineo Dean was murdered 23 years ago. Natalie: well, I was heartbroken.(starts crying) Sal was my friend my best friend. He was only 17. Um his 40th birthday is in 2 months. I just couldn't believe it. And the fact that he was murdered by James..........I knew James was abusive yes I did. I stood up for Sal once I stepped in front of him when James was going to hit him. But I didn't know he would go so far as killing him. That day not the day he died the day stood up for him. He said"Natalie just go" and he closed his eyes. He said" Your making things worse" he closed his eyes an-and I think he was wishing that things could go back to normal. James didn't used to be like that until his father died in 1953 on April 13. Mrs.tate: and 1953 is when the abuse started. Natalie: right, right. I just felt like part of me, a chunk of me was just gone. I miss him I really do.
