Chapter Four
Luke laid the blanket out on the grass in the park, then laid down himself and patted the rug beside him. I kicked off my heels and laid down beside him, he looked at me and smiled. “This is so much better being alone with you, than crammed in with all those people” My heart was beating out of my chest. I couldn’t believe I was here with him all alone. “Much better “I said smiling back at him. But in the back of my mind I couldn’t help but think why Jessica wasn’t here with him instead. “You look so hot tonight Alexis” he said tucking a curl that had fallen across my face, behind my ear. His touch sent fireworks through my whole body. I looked at him, and thought I need to pinch myself this cannot be really happening. I took in what he was wearing, Jeans, a black Blink 182 tee, and a sweat band. He always managed to look gorgeous no matter what he wore.
“What’s on your mind Lexi?” He said opening the bottle of vodka and taking a mouthful. He passed me the bottle, I held it not knowing what to do, I wasn’t supposed to drink and I didn’t think it was a smart thing to drink vodka straight, but I didn’t want him to think I was lame. “I took a mouthful and swallowed, it burnt my throat and Luke laughed as I coughed. “Not really a drinker, hey?” he said taking the bottle from me and having another mouthful. “Yeah not really” I said recovering. He looked at me waiting for me to answer his question. I think the vodka may have given me a little extra confidence, because I blurted out “Where’s Jessica?”
“We’re not together anymore” He said looking away, I couldn’t read the look in his eyes, maybe pain but possibly something else.
“My turn for the questions” He said holding the bottle out to me, I shook my head. “No thanks”
“Who was the guy you were dancing with? Are you guys together?” He said staring into my eyes. It was hard to not feel self-conscious with his eyes on me. I played with the ruffles on my dress under his gaze. “No, that’s just Adam he’s a friend.”
“Oh, cool” He said giving me a sexy smile.
“So the other day at school, how come you yelled out to me?” He said grabbing my hand and tracing his finger up and down my arm. The fireworks running through my body made it hard to concentrate.
“I, Uh… I don’t know just felt like saying hi.” I stumbled.
“Oh, fair enough.” He said with what I thought was a knowing smile.
“How come a hot girl like you doesn’t have a boyfriend?” He said shuffling his body over closer so that our bodies were touching. My heart had caught in my throat and I couldn’t breathe. The feeling of the guy I’d liked for 6 whole months pressed up against me, was too much to take. “The guy I like has had a girlfriend for the past month.” I don’t know how those words came from my mouth but they were out before I could stop and think.
He smiled that gorgeous smile, and cupped my face in his hand, caressing my cheek, I winced at the pain. I had completely forgotten about my bruised cheek. At last someone had helped me forget my worries.
He pulled my face towards his and the butterflies in my stomach were going crazy. Our lips were about to meet when Luke’s phone started to ring. The moment was ruined I thought, as he pulled it out of his pocket and answered it, jumping up and walking off so he was a few metres away. My mind was going crazy, oh my god, he almost kissed me. Me? I cannot wait to tell Channy about this. Oh my god Channy, if she has noticed me missing she will be going crazy with worry.
“Uh, Lexi, sorry but we have to go back, I’ve gotta get going.” He said standing over me as I still lay there in a daydream like an idiot. I jumped up put my heels back on and helped him fold up the rug.
