All sixth-formers must take six core The Craft subjects. These are:
· Combat Practice
· Elemental Training
· Potion Production
· Spell Casting
· Tactical Preparation
· Witch & Wizard History
And, if you have a soul mate, you are also required to take Soul Mate Amalgamation as well.
Sixth-formers must also pick one subject from each of the following option blocks with a maximum of five subjects.
Option Block 1: Mathematics
Option Block 2: English Literature OR English Language
Option Block 3: Geography OR Non-Witch History OR Religious Studies OR Politics
Option Block 4: Biology OR Physics OR Chemistry
Option Block 5: Drama OR Art OR Music OR Photography
Option Block 6: French OR German OR Spanish
I looked at the "timetable" I'd been handed by Miss Watson once more. It didn't tell me when I had what subject. It told me which subjects were compulsory (The Craft subjects) and which were optional (regular subjects).
When I'd spotted this on Saturday I'd asked Caleb about it and he'd told me I had to pick which subjects I was going to take and tell Miss Watson who would then sort out my proper timetable for me. So I did and then – a few hours later – she handed me another sheet of paper with my actual timetable on it.
Monday: Period 1 - Mathematics; Period 2 - French; Period 3 - Soul Mate Amalgamation; Period 4 - Geography; Period 5 - Spell Casting; Period 6 - Elemental Training; Period 7 - Art; Period 8 - English Language.
Tuesday: Period 1 - Potion Production; Period 2 - Art; Period 3 - French; Period 4 - Spell Casting; Period 5 - Combat Practice; Period 6 - Art; Period 7 - Geography.
Wednesday: Period 1 - Tactical Preparation; Period 2 - Tactical Preparation; Period 3 - Mathematics; Period 4 - English Language; Period 5 - Elemental Training; Period 6 - English Language; Period 7 - French; Period 8 - Art.
Thursday: Period 1 - Geography; Period 2 - Witch & Wizard History; Period 3 - French; Period 4 - Combat Practice; Period 5 - English Language; Period 6 - Geography; Period 7 - Mathematics.
Friday: Period 1 - Art; Period 2 - Geography; Period 3 - Potion Production; Period 4 - Mathematics; Period 5 - English Language; Period 6 - Mathematics; Period 7 - French.
I picked all the same subjects I'd studied at my old school but I'd studied four before so I also had to pick another subject. I picked art because before I'd dropped it after year eleven I'd been pretty good at it and really enjoyed it. Also, I hated all the sciences and I couldn't act or play musical instruments to save my life. So that left photography and art. I picked art because I loved actually picking up a pencil or a paint brush and physically making something rather than doing it to a photo on a computer.
So, after this, I'd compared my timetable with Caleb's, Jay's and Grace's. The lone subject we all had together was soul mate amalgamation and we only had one lesson a week of it. I was more than a little disappointed at the thought. But that was actually remarkable that Grace and I even had one lesson with Caleb and Jay because they were in year thirteen.
