I was about 10 when it happened to me. At first they were blurry, nonsense dreams...but now? I see them almost every few hours. There so vivid that sometimes, it feels like I'm really there. I remember when the first one came. I was brushing my hair in the morning before school when suddenly I wasn't in my bathroom anymore. Instead, I was in a pale blue room. Obviously it was a boys room because all around me was Batman posters and action figures. I remember looking down and not seeing my hand that was holding my brush. My hand was empty. For the first time I realized I was not sitting. I was in a bed with of course, Batman sheets.
It ended as soon as it started, leaving me back in my bathroom staring at my shocked expression in the mirror. I dropped the brush on the floor and ran downstairs. As soon as i made it down the last step I bumped into my brother August. "Watch it, you weirdo" he barked. My brother was "going through a stage" as my mom like to call it, where he would snap at any little thing and hide in his room a lot. He was incredibly annoying but at that time he might as well be Jesus. "August! August! Your never going to believe it. I was in the bathroom and I suddenly...wasn't? But anyways I was not me!!" I yelled quickly. He just looked at me and slowly said " Why can't I be the only child?" I didn't notice Mom was in the room in till she said "August leave Violet alone." She then turned to me. "What did you say Vi?"
August huffed and mumbled something about being the only sane one and ran upstairs. I took a deep breathe and explained to Mom about what happened and by the time I was done her eyes were as wide as saucers. " Okay...well, your not insane. Um, you know what? Lets go get Auntie Claire" She bit her lip and grabbed me by my hand and led me to Auntie Claire's room in the basement. When we got down there she knocked on Auntie Claire's door and tapped her foot impatiently. "Mom are you okay? Did I do something wrong?" I asked. She gasped and shook her head fast. "oh, no sweetie! You didn't do anything wrong" She squatted down to my height and took me by the shoulders. "Its just-" Mom didn't get to finish because Auntie Claire swung open her door and stared down at us. "Yes?" she said dryly. Mom rolled her eyes and looked at me and then back to Auntie Claire " It's happening to her" she said calmly and slow. Auntie Claire scrunched up her eyebrows and said "It? What do you mean IT?" Mom just looked at her and lifted an eyebrow. Auntie Claire seemed to get the hint. "Oh lord. You mean she has it?!" She put her hands on her cheeks in horror.
Mom rubbed her eyes and nodded. "Why don't you tell Auntie Claire what you saw?" She said tiredly. I nodded and told the story again. Auntie Claire smiled at me and looked down at Mom. " Your telling her, Lori. She's your daughter." Auntie Claire's smile turned smug and she led me and Mom into her room. Auntie Claire and Mom motioned for me to sit in a chair while they took the bed. Mom took a deep breathe and glared at Aunt Claire. She took a moment to gather her thoughts and said " Um, what you just saw? Its called a vision and Auntie Claire and me had them when we were a little older than you." She nodded as so reassure herself and took my hands. "Honey, when you have these visions its about your soulmate. Do you know what a soulmate is?" I shook my head no. Auntie Claire jumped in. " A soulmate is a person who is totally meant for you. Like the Universe makes up this one person who you are destined to be together with." She explained. Mom gave her a look and said " I'm sorry I thought she was my daughter, Claire." Aunt Claire put her hands up in mock surrender. Mom just shook her head and squeezed my hands. " ask me a question and I'll answer it"
