The first day of work was finally here.

As I sat at the table I couldn't help feela little nervous about going to work today, but there was no reason to be whatsoever. After teaching for a couple of years now I should have enough experience to not feel this way, right?

However this year I have the side job of being a counselor, giving me even more responsibilities. Our staff has been decreasing slowly giving more teachers job opportunities, but that wasn't exactly a good thing or bad thing either.

With a sigh,I decided to stop pondering about it and just shoved the remaining piece of pancake in my mouth before heading out.

---

"Hello everyone nice to see you all" I said as I entered the main office.

"Hello Y/N, nice to see you. How was your break?" The principal asked as she was passing by and stopped in her tracks.

"Ah, Mrs.Lee. It was alright. It wasn't exciting nor too boring. I guess relaxing is the word I'm looking for." I said smiling back at her.

"Well at least you got to relax. Anyways I have to go to my office, I'll send you the stuff to your room."

"Oh, for the back to school night?"

"Yes, if you can look at it as soon as possible, then report to me."

"Sure thing, I'll get going" I said as I left to my classroom.

I pushed open the door and smiled as I looked around. All the material seemed to be set and tidy just as I left it.

It was different than all the other classrooms because I was an art teacher. I didn't have a class all day long like other teachers. They would drop their students different periods of the day. During the times I didn't have classes, I would do my duties of a counselor.Simple as that..I hoped.

"Ah, what am I gonna do now?" I said as I sat down at my desk.

Usually I don't do anything on the first day of school except present myself to the students, give them an overview of what the class is about, and answer if they have any questions.

A sudden knock on the door broke me from my thoughts.

"Come in! It's open!" I yelled, too lazy to get up and open the door.

I noticed the familiar brown hair first as he peeked through the door, then that cute eye-smile of his.

"Hey there Y/N" he said and walked in.

"Well if it isn't Mr.Park. How you doing?" I said as I got up to meet him halfway.

"I'm doing fine thanks for asking. Sorry we didn't hang out how we wanted to." He said as he hugged me.

"It's Okay Jimin, we can hang out any other time" I told him as I patted him on the back.

"Oh yeah! I heard you're the new counselor!" He said cheerfully and handed me the stuff I assumed the principal send me.

"Yeah I am.." I said plainly

"You don't seem very happy about it, but honestly I think it suits you"

"Really?"

"Yeah, you have a way with kids that makes them open up to you. That's a good skill for elementary counselors to have." He tried to encourage.

"Hmm, I've mainly dealt with adults, but I guess it'll be okay. How bout you? I heard you also had another side job."

"Oh yeah, besides being the music teacher I'm also in charge of physical education." He said proudly.

"Now that suits you fine. You're in shape and you're an amazing singer."

"Thanks Y/N.." He smiled tenderly.

"Oh my gosh! Classes are gonna start! You better head to your classroom now!" I said rushing him.

"Oh you're right! Okay, see ya then!" he gave me a quick hug and rushed out.

The bell rang and I took a seat, grabbing the papers the principle gave me. It basically contained the schedule of the meeting, what we were gonna go over, and what I had to say to the parents.

Time passed quickly and I was expecting my first class in a couple of minutes. Finally the class came in and the teacher left them in my care, so there I stood, waiting for them to take a seat.

"Hello kids, I'm Miss Min (Your Last Name) and I'm going to be your art teacher this year. Not only that but I'm also your counselor. So if you guys have any questions or you're struggling with something, whether it's about school or something personal you need help with, I'll be more than happy to help every single one of you. Okay, so let me show you around the classroom real quick." I said as walked around pointing at the different medias we had: painting, coloring, clay, and etc.

"That's basically everything I needed to tell you guys. Are there any questions?"

"Where are we going to put our projects at?" one kid asked as he rose his hand in the air.

"I was going to show you that tomorrow, but why not. Over there in the back, I'm going to assign you guys your shelves so you can put your stuff." I replied

However something caught my attention. There was this little girl in the back with her head down.

Guess someone's not so excited for their first day of school.

I tried to cheer up the atmosphere by asking what their favorite art media was. Almost everyone rose their hands..except her. I was able to see through almost every single one, to get a glimpse of their personalities, but not her.

The bell was about to ring, when I went up to the little girl, and held an origami of a Lily flower in front of her. She looked at it andthen looked up at me with round eyes.

"Here this is for you" I said giving her a smile.

"..Thank you" she, said, taking it in her small hands, "How..did you know my name?" she continued to gaze at me with those big doe eyes.

"Huh? Lilly is your name?" I asked squatting down to her height.

"It's actually Nari. Nari means Lilly in Korean" She said looking down at the crafted paper.

"Oh really? What a cute name. It fits you nicely."

"Thank you ma'am" she said shyly.

"Hey between you and me, you can call me Y/N." I said trying to win her trust.

"But ma'am I can't call you by that, that's disrespectful" she was taken aback.

"Depends how you look at it. If I give you permission to call me that then it's not disrespectful, and I only let my friends call me by my first name. So what do you say?..Want to be my friend?"

"Hmm..Yeah!" I managed to get a smile from her.

"Okay then. Head off with the rest of the class. See you tomorrow sweetie."

"Okay" she said as she ran to catch up with the rest as they left the classroom.

I was working on my presentation and sending emails to all the parents of students to attend the meeting. While I was sending the emails, one got my attention. It was Nari's contact info. There was the information of her dad, his cellphone number, his email, but I realized that there wasn't any information about her mom. Could she be a housewife? Anyways I send it to him and hoped for them to come. I looked back at it and read his name.
