I walk hand in hand with the dark shadow. My feet touching the cold tile in the hospital. We walked for what seemed like forever. Till I finally recognized where I was. I was home. The phone rang and my parents bedroom light came on. A moment later a shriek could be hear and lots of crying. I traveled up the stairs still holding onto the darkness. My hand reached out for the door knob. I twisted it and slowly pushed open the door. My mother was on the floor. She was crying and my father held her tight tears forming in his eyes. I knew I was dead, but I still felt so alive. I still had senses and everything I touched felt real.I got lost in thought as my mother cried. The darkness slowly pulled away and slowly disappeared. I watched my father put my mother back to bed. Then he went down stairs. My father wasn't much of a drinker though we kept lots of alcohol in the house. He sat down at the table pulling his glasses on and poured himself a drink. Whiskey was what he drank when he was sad. He fought back tears as he drank. A few moments pasts and he got up climbing the big staircase. He turned down the hall and stopped in front of my bedroom door. He slowly opened the door and tiptoed in. He placed his glass on the dresser and started looking around. I watched him take in all the pictures on my wall. I don't think he's ever really been in my room long enough to see how I decorated. He looked through my books. Thumbing threw poems I had highlighted. At last he sat at the end of my bed his head in his hands tears streaming down his face and falling onto the carpet. It was just now setting in that he had lost his daughter. I left my father and wondered into my brother Jay's room. He was asleep still. He looked so calm and peaceful. I hated for him to be waken up to bad news. I softly pet his head and exited the room. I heard soft cries from my parents room. I entered knowing I would regret it. My mother was still in bed crying her eyes out. I lay down beside her. Snuggling into her and for a moment she stops crying. She closers her eyes and breaths deeply and I know she can feel me. My hand runs up her arm and I place a kiss on her cheek. I slowly come to my feet and walk out the room. My father standing in the door way and looks over at my mother from afar. "Susan we should wake the kids and tell them". My mother gets to her feet and they wake my siblings and they all sit in the living room as the news of my death is shared.
