"It has been four days since we seen him, Father."
"I know."
"Could he have decided to let his father control him fully?" I asked, pacing the cave. I left Kuvo with a choice. Come back and I will help, or leave and never return. The pups were getting anxious for their father. I didn't know what to tell them.
"I do not know." Ashal replied, watching me. Stallion was watching me as well. He has not said much since the day we left his brother. He took care of the pack on what I could not. The pups were old enough that they took on mentors. Raincloud being Winter's and Ash's mentor. Cloud being Mud's. Stallion being Midnight's. Me being Hope's. Hope has come a long way in her training. Clearly she will be the future leader. Midnight has been a bit of a rebel, but she is kind and friendly with the pups below her. Mud has been very roudy. A clear trouble maker. He is good at defending his loved ones though. It is still unclear about Ash and Winter. They really ain't shown much into anything. Even hunting.
"Momma, there is a strange wolf at the entrance. He looks like father." Hope came in, running to me.
"You said he looks like your father?" I asked getting excited.
"Now, now darling. Maybe you should let me or Stallion check it out." Ashal said getting up.
"NO!" I blurted. "No. I will check it. I am the leader after all."
"Come on, mommy. Come on." Hope said rushing outside. I took one small step at a time outside the cave. It has been three days since I left the cave. I used all my strength to handle the coronation of the pups and getting tasked started. Angel forced me to stay in doors now so I did most of Hope's training in doors. Anything I couldn't teach was taught by Marigold who helped in the nursing stations.
I was finally outside the cave when I heard him. He was over by the fresh kill pile playing with Mud, Ash, Winter, and Midnight. They all seemed happy. I sat down and watched them, smiling to myself, forgetting that he wanted to kill me four days earlier. We was whole. We was a family. I watched them until he saw me. "Sapphire..." he gently said loud enough for me to hear him, "OK, pups, me and your mother has to have a talk." he said getting up.
"Awww, but Daddy, you just got here." Winter whinned.
"Yeah, Daddy. Can't talk happen later?" Ash asked.
"I'm afraid not." he said. He walked over to me, "Do you want to speak in private?"
"Can I trust you enough?" I retored, getting up and walking back to the cave. I knew I hurt him. I could sense it. I could also sense him following me. I nodded to Ashal and Stallion to get out. They were getting up and leaving until they saw him. They stopped and Stallion started growling. "Oh go on and stand guard. Far enough you can't hear." I growled at him. At that, Stallion left along with Ashal. "Sit." I told Kuvo. He did as I said and I sat at the other side of the cave from him.
"Sapphire, let me start with-"
"No. Let me start. It has been four days since I gave you that choice. Four days, Kuvo. The pups have missed you and I didn't know what to tell them. Like 'Sorry kids but your father may or may not be coming back because his father is possessing him and trying to kill me. Just thought y'all should know.' and act like that is all good? I mean seriously, I am worried for my life right now not to mention their future. I mean, I could live without you. I could have Stallion or even my father come in here and kill you or I could myself, but I don't want to see my pups upset. I don't want to break their hearts and make them live without their biological father." I said in one breath. I could see the dismay in Kuvo's eyes but I didn't care. He hurt me far worse than I could ever hurt him.
