Ahmed's POV
"I-its Anaya," She whispers
"Okay, pick it up. Don't tell her anything right now," I instruct. She nods and walks to a corner for some privacy.
I wait for her to come back.
"What did she say?" I ask, once she's back.
"Nothing much," She says and I nod.
We are about to leave the police station. Ayesha walks towards Ayyan, who's sitting on the bed.
"I didn't tell Anaya anything right now...But she will surely question once she doesn't see you in university tomorrow," I hear her say.
"Please don't tell her anything. I want to tell her everything myself," He begs.
She nods understandingly and walks back.
We then leave the police station.
"Let's go eat somewhere," I offer, to cheer her up.
She shakes her head and sits in the passenger seat. I decide not to argue and drive towards her house.
After dropping Ayesha home, I help the inspector with the investigation.
Ayesha's POV
I answer the call and walk to a corner.
"Hello, Ayesha?" I hear her say.
"Heyyy, Anaya. How are you," I ask, trying to sound casual.
"I'm good. But your voice seems cracky, were you crying?" She asks, I could sense worry in her voice.
"Nah. I'm just having a sore throat," I lie.
"Oh okay, wanna hangout? I'm free right now and bored. I tried calling Ayyan but he isn't picking up. I guess he's busy," She says, cheerfully.
"Uh well. I can't right now. I'm busy, doing some work," I reply, nervously.
"When are you not busy?," She says, annoyed. I could imagine her rolling her eyes.
I chuckle.
"I'm sorry, I'll see you at the university tomorrow," I say.
"Okay bye. Take care," She hangs up.
I walk back towards Ahmed.
After having a little talk with Ayyan, we head home.
I fall asleep thinking of what a bad day it was today.
********
I wake up to the ringing of my alarm. I turn it off and walk towards the bath room.I woke up like 8 times during the night, and didn't get much sleep, I'm sure I look horrible. I look at the dull girl standing in front of the mirror instead of happy one, dark circles underneath her eyes, pale skin and chapped lips.
I sigh and wash my face with cold water and head back to my bedroom.
I cover up my dark circles with some concealer and put some lip gloss. I get my bag and head downstairs.
I eat my breakfast in silence. Feeling the emptiness without Hussain, I feel tears trying to come out but I blink them away.
At least he's in a better place right now. Away from the world's problems.
I walk outside and sit in the passenger seat. I avoid talking to Ahmed the whole time. He takes the clue and remains quiet.
I get out once we reach the university. I hug Anaya as soon as I see her. I hold back my tears.
"Hiiiii," She greets in the usual happy manner.
"Hellloo," I reply, smiling.
"Wheres Ayyan?" She asks, and looks around me.
"I don't know," I reply. "Maybe he's just sick today or something and so he didn't come," I try to come up with an excuse.
"Yeah maybe," She replies and we walk towards our classes as soon as we hear the bell ring.
At the cafeteria
We are sitting at the lunch table while Anaya is on her phone.
"Ayeshaaaaa!" Anaya calls me, excitedly.
"Yeah?" I say, looking up at her.
"Ayyan just messaged me. He said that I shouldn't worry and that he is busy in some work and will be back soon. Thank god he messaged, I was worried," She says it all in one breath.
"Oh, that's great," I manage to smile.
If only you knew he isn't busy but in jail. The thought tears up my eyes but I blink it away.
"I asked him if we could meet and he said maybe later as he is busy right now," She says with a sad face. "I want to meet him so bad. I miss him," She adds.
I nod not knowing what to say. I zone out, hoping everything will be fine. Thinking what will happen when Anaya gets to know the truth.
