At the Campfire

The glowing flames flickered and danced with darting tips reaching out to the abyss above where stars dotted the midnight blue sky. My eyes locked onto the mesmerising movement of the fire in front of us until I felt someone's eyes linger on me for longer than I would expect any pair of eyes to. I broke my gaze to look up and saw (C/N) turn their head swiftly, attempting but failing to hide the gentle blush painted on their cheeks, with the precise perfection that only a painter of a masterpiece could do. I looked down at the forest floor, a blanket of red and orange leaves, adding to the warmth of the atmosphere, before glancing up again. Startled, my eyes widened in surprise as (C/N) stood in front of me. "Do you want a marshmallow?" I nodded almost too eagerly. "You love marshmallows." I smile and as they lift the marshmallow above my lips. I part my lips and the melted marshmallow turns into a state between liquid and solid on my tongue.

As the fire crackles in front of us, I think of all the things that I want to say yet none of them slip from my mouth, my lips form a seal. All I can do is let my eyes wander over every single part of their body, every single movement and every single heartbeat. I slowly slide and shift closer to (C/N) on the log and I swear I see them smirking in my peripheral vision.

They speak. "(Y/N), I feel like we've met in another life. It's like I already know and understand you without us actually knowing each other for more than this holiday."

I say "I understand. It just comes naturally. We are...just meant to know each other."

The edges of their lips being pulled up into a smile, they respond "And I want to continue knowing you. You know, you can stay here if you really want to. You can stay at your best friend's house or mine."

"I-I.. but the rest of my life is 300 miles away." I pause. I ponder. "No, I want to be with-" (C/N) tilts my head up and in their eyes, I see a billion thoughts running through their mind before they clasp onto the back of my neck and press their lips onto mine. I let out a moan as our breaths mingled and hearts raced. All I could feel was the melting of my insides like a roasted marshmallow, the warmth in my mouth and body and the tingles following where (C/N) caressed and stroked me. I felt at peace, an inner harmony and serenity, being wrapped by his arms, embosomed in his embrace. I slowly distance myself and breaths come gushing out as I feel my cheeks heat up and blend into a rosy red. "So, will you stay with me?"they murmur.

My chin tilts down and back up. "Yes."
