"Reilly!" my mom called from downstairs. "Come down here and say goodbye! I've got to go!"
I stopped unpacking my clothes and left my room, going down the stairs two at a time.
"Yes mom, I'll take care of Jake, okay? Stop worrying. It's not like this is our first time here." I laughed, hugging her goodbye.
Jake and I stood on the porch, waving to my mom as she pulled out of the driveway. I couldn't help but envy her, I mean she was going home, a place I wouldn't be for the next three months.
"So kids? What do you wanna do first?" my uncle Jeremy asked.
I rolled my eyes at his childish tone and tugged on my shoes.
"I'm going for a walk." I called over my shoulder on my way out.
I tugged the door shut behind me and walked out onto the porch. I took a deep breath, taking in everything in front of me. I walked down the wooden steps and I felt the sand under my shoes. I quickly pulled them off before stepping off the steps and onto the beach. I decided to sit down before I started walking, and chose a spot closer to the dunes.
Only minutes after I sat down, I heard a door slam and a boy walked out onto the deck of a blue house two doors down. If he saw me, he showed no signs of it. As he walked farther down the steps and closer to me, I got a better look at him. He looked around my age and had dark brown wavy hair and hazel eyes. He was definitely tanner than I was and he looked to be around 5'10". The door that he had come out of soon opened and a women walked out.
"Calum!" she yelled. "Get back in here!" but the boy kept walking. In fact, he kept walking until he was standing next to me.
"Do you mind?" he asked, pointing to the ground next to me.
I shook my head. "Not at all."
We sat there in silence for a minute, before I decided to speak.
"Was that your mom?" I asked, pointing to his house.
"Yeah." he answered. "She's a pain in the butt."
"At least she didn't ship you here for the whole summer."
"Oh, but there's where your wrong. You see, I live here."
"Must be pretty bad, huh?" I laughed.
The boy looked up at me and smiled. "Calum." he said, sticking his hand out.
"Reilly." I said before shaking his hand.
