Javonte Miller ^
"Angel, please tell me you did what I ask you to do ."
Lamar, my boss spoke walking into my office upset.
"Yes sir, I printed all your papers as you said ."
I rolled my eyes going over my case. This was one of the most challenging cases I ever had in years. Javonte Miller was charged with the killing of the infamous drug lord Montana Johnson. Everyone in the streets knew the two had beef since we were in grade school.
Hell, the police department was building a case to take both men down.
"Bethany said you didn't print all of them so she finished it up for you ."
He mugged me before leaving out of my office. I swear if I wasn't working for the law I would love to push him off a bridge with that bitch Bethany by his side. Dialing the number that was in Mr. Javonte's file. It rung four times before a woman picked up the phone
"Hello. My name is Angel Smith, may I speak to Javonte Miller ?"
I said flipping through my notes.
"Um, this his mom. Are you the lawyer?" She said in a serene voice.
"Yes, ma'am. I was calling to remind Mr. Miller has a meeting with me tomorrow at ten thirty at the Starbucks right across from the outlet ."
I said writing down what time and where.
"Okay. He will be there." I thanked her before ending the call.
Once I locked up my office, I went home. On the ride there, my mind wonders off about considering that trip to New York for the holidays. I'm just not ready to hear my mom's voice about giving her some grandkids and new son.
Her exact words, "I want some grandbabies and son-in-law before I turn in a grave so I can rant to them how their grandfather wasn't shit."
I'm only 25 years old, I'm in the prime of my career, a family as of right now is not on my list. But if a fine man comes my way and fights for one, he can put a ring on this finger. Pulling up in the drive through, I cut the car off before going into the house.
Walking to my room I dropped my book bag and purse at the door. I took my hair out of the ponytail as my long curly hair hanged down my shoulders. Slipping off my dress and heels I changed into my black shorts and a tie-dye top. Putting my hair in a bonnet I got in the bed and went to sleep.
Next Morning
As I walked into the franchise, I picked a booth to sit at. Twenty minutes passed, I soon began to feel impatient. Right, when I was packing my stuff someone slid into the booth in front of me. "Now you want to show up ." I mugged him.
"Be happy I showed up ." He barked back looking me up and down.
"But you the one who needs me," I said rolling my eyes. This nigga going to make my hood side come out and I don't have time for it.
"I have plenty of money. I can always get another lawyer. What makes you so special ?" He said leaning back.
Right, when I was about to go off on him my phone ringed. It was my mom .
"Yes ." I dryly said.
"Hey, sweetie pie. Sorry if I'm bothering you but I want to know are you still coming for the Christmas dinner ." She said yelling into the phone.
"Yes, Mom. I will ." I sighed.
"This year you better bring a young man to my house too. Eva put that shit down. I have to go call you later, I love you ." She hung up the phone
"Love you too."
"Family problem huh," He chuckled.
"Between you and I, you ain't shit," I said annoyed by him. No wonder his mother begged me to be his lawyer for this case.
"Thank you, Ma. Tell me something I don't know ."
"Can you put our past behind us and stop with this nonsense." Yes, Javonte and I have a history together.
When I moved to Charollete, we attended the same middle school. We stayed at each other heads every day up until high school graduation. After leaving for school at UCLA I never heard from him again, that's not up until now.
"Just do your little magic and make them say I'm innocent."
"It's not that easy. You killed him and everything leads back to you ." I groan getting frustrated.
"That's what you are here for Ms. Kardashian ." Looking at the time it was already 11: 30.
"You have less than twenty - four hours to be prepared for your hearing. I suggest you go over what you are going to say to the jury and judge to save your ass ." With that, I grabbed all my stuff leaving out the shop.
