Growing up we're told stories about fairy tales. About our prince charming and happily ever after. They say we can choose our own story. Our life. How at the end of the day our book is written however we decide it will be.
They lied.
My name is Nicki Gold and I wasn't given a choice.
I grew up having a stepmother and 2 stepsisters. How I was treated unfairly, never popular, and of course was the ugliest one out of the family.
This led to people believing my fairytale path was chosen. They believed that the path of Cinderella was proven to be correct. They were wrong.
Taking the Cinderella path was marking myself down as a damsel in distress. And I refused to be marked down as that. I've worked my whole life to try to change my happily ever after. Now that I'm old enough to participate in the princess games I'll show this town-. No, I'll show the world that being a princess doesn't mean being a damsel in distress.
And oh how wrong I was.
