This wasn't going to work. Trying to fit 14 different outfits into a small vintage suitcase I got at a flea market obviously isn't going
to work. I tried rolling my shirts up to create more space but it left little room for my paperwork that was supposed to go up top. Since I was traveling by myself I would rather just have to carry the one suitcase, I guess it's going to have to be two. I was running low on caffeine and running late in general, today I was boarding "The Spaniard".

I double checked my boarding pass at least 10 times making sure I booked the right ship considering I was going nowhere near Spain. The travel agency assured me that it was still a seven day cruise going to the Bahamas and that my spot was reserved. Still, me being the worrier that I am, tried to find as much information on this ship that I could. The only thing that I discovered was that this ship was used in World War 2. Apparently Spain considered itself neutral during the war but still had connections with the US. Germany took advantage of this and built a ship and named it "The Spaniard". They sailed across the Atlantic without even the slightest glances from US forces, thinking it was just a Spanish cargo ship for trading purposes. Little did they know that the Germans were planning a trojan horse invasion on Florida. Their plan eventually backfired when they realized that almost all of Florida's population at the time was made up of training soldiers as soon as they washed up on one of their bases. After that, the story seems to completely vanish from the Internet. One day during my lunch break I ran over to the Public Library to find it empty as usual. I darted to the right side of the building and found almost the whole back wall filled with World War 2 Information.

I skimmed at least 50 books in a 3o minute period and then had realized I had to get back to work. A librarian came up beside me with her cart and started picking up my messy pile of books. "Oh my gosh, I am so sorry!" I quickly picked them up and frantically tried to remember where they all went. She quietly took the books from my hands and put them on her cart. "It's alright, I am going to end up throwing these out anyways. No one comes here to learn about the War these days, this whole wall will soon be filled with teen magazines." She had a disgusted look on her face, the fact that all this history would soon be gone from the library. " What has you so intrigued in the history section unlike most of the young folks that come in now?" She glared at a group of high schoolers that had just walked in and took control of the sitting area. "I actually was trying to find a bit more information on this ship that the Germans came over on in the war." She placed the last book onto her cart and adjusted her glasses to get a better look at me. "I believe you are talking about The Spaniard." "Yes, yes that's it! I just wanted to know more what happened after they landed on that Florida Military Base." The kids were getting louder and louder and she just kept looking back at them ready to pounce. " Depends on what Era you are referring to" I became puzzled, " I just meant what happened to the Germans and the Ship after the attempted invasion," I stated. I thought she had ignored me as she began to look up and down the aisle. She eventually pulled out a yellowed pamphlet that smelt of musk. " Let me just say that this ship had a lot of history." She stared at me with such a big smile it began to scare me a little and I bumped into her cart and made one of the books fall. I reached down to grab it and when I looked back up I saw that I was alone in the aisle. I turned around and saw that the kids had left too and that I was in the Library by myself. I placed the book back on the cart and picked up the pamphlet she left on the floor. "The Spaniard's Halloween Cruise Special" As I opened it up the first thing I saw was the date 1947. Later that night I got home and called up the agency again and asked them about this Special. After all, it was October at the moment. They said that it was something they used to do back in the day when they first turned the ship into a cruise ship after the war but they stopped doing due to budget cuts. I hung up the phone almost disappointed, I felt as if I would be missing out on this puzzle piece of history that I was still trying to put together. A few days later I got an email from the cruise ship company in my inbox with the subject being "ReGrand Opening of The Spaniard's Halloween Special". I was just about to call the travel agency again but realized that I had already bothered them so much and decided not to question my strike of good luck. I was almost two feet out the door with my suitcases when so realized I was missing my costume! I ran back into my studio apartment and swung open the closet. I climbed on top of my bed and jumped to reach my box on the upper shelf. I missed and the costume fell out onto the floor and so did my box full of childhood photos. I put my 50's girl costume on a hanger and into a garment bag.
