First impressions

It was the town of Wade's annual founders' party. This year the party was to be a mascarade ball. The party would be held on the beach under a tent. There would be marvelous amounts of food, decorations, and people. This was the first founders' party Cora will be attending. She and her parents only moved to the town a month ago. It was very untimely since it was the middle of the semester in the middle of one of her most important school years, her Junior year.

She hasn't made any friends as of yet and this got her parents concerned. Her parents have been telling her that this party will be a good opportunity to make friends. She didn't disagree with them and agreed to go.

She starts getting ready, which is a huge struggle since she doesn't know what to wear, despite the fact that her mother bought her a dress just for the occasion.

As they approach the venue they hear loud music and laughter. She follows her parents to the venue. As soon as they get close to the tent they see many people in dresses and tuxedos with masks on. Some are out of control, clearly intoxicated. There are a few cops around, ready to restrain any trouble makers. Bright, flashing lights fill the tent. As soon as Cora approaches the tent, her parents give her money and leave her, putting on their masks as they enter the tent. She heaves a deep breath and puts on her mask as she enters soon after them.

A bunch of boys in the corner of the tent are making trouble. Some are intoxicated and others are high on adrenaline. They are spiking drinks and having friendly brawls inside when one of the cops scolds them. Jered takes a swig of his drink and crushes the cup before he tosses it into a bin. He drops his hands next to his sides after his shot and slightly hangs his head. His friend bumps into him playfully. He snaps out of his daydream and laughs with his friends.

After only fifteen minutes of standing around, having something to drink, and dancing with one guy, who was way too touchy for her taste, Cora leaves the tent. She strolls along the beach until she is almost two kilometers away. She lifts her dress and walks into the water, breathing a sigh of relief as the cold water wraps around her ankles. The ocean is the only place she feels welcome, where she feels comfortable. She gets lost in thought, gazing out on the horizon.

Jered stumbles away from the tent slightly unstable from being a bit tipsy. He wonders a good distance away from the tent until he sees something in the distance. He strains his eyes to focus and adjust to the light. He sees before him a young lady in a beautiful dress. The dress hangs up to her ankles, he can tell even though she is lifting it up. The dress is as dark blue as the sky and dotted with glitter which looks like the stars have gotten stuck on the fabric. She has long, blonde hair and full, pouty lips.  He thinks to himself that he has never before seen such a beautiful girl in his entire life. She looks mysterious and he feels this uncontrollable urge to figure her out. He walks over to her and she only notices his presence when he enters the water.

She jumps with fright at his sudden appearance but quickly relaxes after. She is surprised to see anyone this far away from the party. Not one word passes between them as she assesses him. He has ash blonde hair, that hangs halfway to his neck, and bright green eyes. He has kind eyes full of wonder. She feels slightly disturbed by his presence and his eyes on her. At the same time, she feels thankful. These past few weeks she has been feeling like she doesn't exist.

He speaks first after a long minute of silence. "What are you doing out here so lonely?"

"Even though the beach is full of people, I'm always alone in this place."

"Me too," he says offering her a charming smile. She feels relieved and smiles back at him. "We can be lonely together?" he suggests.

So that was the first chapter! Hope you liked it! Tell me what you think and don't forget to vote!
