The rest of the ride was filled with utter and complete silence as I watched the world come alive before me. After our little incident along the road, Damian and I haven't said a word to each other and when I tried making conversation, he'd just hum or nod as a response. Finally I got sick of his moods and just sighed as I turned my body away from him to face the outside earth.
Photograph by Ed Sheeran played through the radio and drilled through my ears as we pulled up alongside the beach. Jason's car was already parked in the lot a couple blocks down and as I exited the car, the ocean breeze brushed through my hair as the scent of salt and see-grass filled my nostrils. A smile made it's way upon my face as I grabbed my bag and started towards the beach where my friends awaited me.
The sand between my toes and Damian walking a short distance behind me was quickly forgotten as I saw Caleb running through the water like his life depended on it, arms flailing through the air and knees up to his chest. I chuckled as Shanette went all cave woman and jumped on his back before tackling him into the water. Rebecca called me over as Jason was walking towards Damian with a beer in his hand.
"Sup man. What happened to you two? We thought you got kidnapped or something." Damian quickly looked my way and coughed to hide the awkwardness between us before putting our things down, under the already set up umbrella. Jason stared between us as confusion lighted his face and he nodded before running along, probably to go torture Caleb further.
"Hey girla, wanna come swim with us?" Rebecca requested, hugging me in her black bikini as I nodded and looked to my right only to see Damian taking off his shirt. His muscles contracted, arms flexed and six pack came into view as he threw the shirt on the ground and found my eyes before taking off towards the others.
"What happened between you two?"She asked, whatching the boys ruffle in the sea. I shook my head as I took off my shorts followed by my crop top, leaving me in my bikini and sighed. "Believe me, you don't want to know." She only nodded, not asking any questions further as we walked towards the ocean. My eyes met Damian's forest ones as I searched for Shan and I watched as they trailed down my body and up again only to find them filled with amusement? No....lust?
I gulped at the way he was looking at me and he smirked knowing he was making me uncomfortable. I entered the water and walked, well more like swam towards Caleb. "Hey Princess." He smiled evilly as he came towards me with slow strides and realisation struck me. "No, no, no Charming!" I yelled as he ducked my head under water and started tickling me.
Goosebumps arose on my skin as I managed to get out off his iron grip and swam away as quickly as possible, before surfacing, laughter still clouding my face. Suddenly two large arms circled around my waist from behind as his scent filled my nose...mint and lemon. I immediately knew who it was as my heartbeat quickened and my breathing picked up speed. He trailed kisses along my neck and over my collarbone as my eyes fluttered closed and a chill went up my spine.
"I'm sorry for being a jerk Hazel. Please forgive me?" He asked, nibbling on my ear before he spun me around, hands gripping my hips. I stared into his eyes and decided to tease him as he did me early on. I trailed my hands along his abdomen, over his shoulders and into his hair as I kissed his jaw. I smiled in victory when his quickened pulse reached my ears and decided to repeat his words. "Do I make you nervous Damian?" I whispered in his ear and chuckled as he groaned and pulled my leg upwards as it rested on his hip.
"You drive me crazy." He growled and just as his lips was about to smash against mine, Caleb jumped on his back making him release me and sending a Tsunami wave my way. Again?! Really universe? I spit out the waterfall in my mouth and glared at Caleb as Damian wrestled him under water. I shook the thoughts away as I swam to the surface and heard Damian yelling in annoyance at Caleb as they surfaced.
I saw Jason rubbing SPF 50 on Rebecca's back as I neared them and sat down with a coke in my hands. "Hey, we're all going to the cliff. Wanna come?" I frowned not knowing what they were talking about but nodded anyway in desperate need of a distraction from what just happened a few minutes back. I searched for a mop of curls as I followed the others towards the cliff, Caleb being gods knows where and finally found Damian at the shore, talking to someone on the phone. I frowned as he yelled at the person and shut off his phone before joining us.
What's with all these mysterious phone calls lately?
"Hey, wanna tell me what that was all about." I asked as he threw his arm around my shoulder and placed a kiss on top off my head. "I'll tell you later okay?" He asked as his eyes met mine. I nodded as we neared the cliff and Jason picked Becca up bridal style before jumping, Rebecca yelling for her life.
"Heads up!" I heard Caleb yelling from afar before tackling Shanette off the cliff and into the deadly waters of the sea. I chuckled as they surfaced and Caleb said something about Karma being a bitch and Payback. I shook my head and I waited for the next person to jump, but realised it was only me and Damian left.
I shook my head furiously as he smiled wickedly at me. "Oh no mister, you can forget about it. Nuh huh." I wiggled my finger at him, but soon he scooped me up bridal style as a yelp escaped my throat. "Da-Damian. Please no, I-I'm afraid of...heights." I shut my eyes tightly as he walked through the rocks towards the end.
He lifted my chin with his index finger. "Baby, look at me." I opened my eyes slowly as he caressed my cheek and stared at me with so much sincerity. "I won't let anything happen to you, ever. I promise." I nodded, suddenly feeling safer than before as he took the final step letting us fly through the air as we neared the water. I wrapped my arms tight around his neck as we reached the water and everything went blurry for a second before we surfaced.
"Open your eyes Hazel." He whispered in my ear as his arms tighten around me, still holding me up in his embrace. I opened my eyes and found myself smiling wider than the sun as Damian's eyes met mine and he laughed as he took in my expression. "I did it." He smiled and placed a soft kiss on my cheek. "Yeah, you did."
"Again!" I yelled and that's exactly what happened for the next few hours. We finally decided to come back as the sun had started to set and Caleb looked like a grilled tomato: Red and roasted.
"Guys! I hurt !" Caleb groaned like a baby, slouching as we took our things back to the car. "Well it's your fault for not wanting the sunscreen, because you were too and I quote 'Too manly to burn'." We all laughed at Shanette's impression of Charming as he crossed his arms and huffed in frustration.
"Yeah, talk about a wimp." Damian commented and sent me a wink while Caleb glared daggers at his head. "Hey, watch it buddy! Pretty soon you're not gonna have your best friend anymore, 'cause I'll be dead and you'll be all on your own." He yelled in mock hurt placing a hand over his head dramatically. "Oh shut up drag queen." Damian groaned as he laced his fingers through mine.
Woah...did he just- Did he just do that?
I shook the thoughts away and decided to enjoy it as long as it lasted and just 'cause it's my luck, it didn't last long. Jason signalled us to pull over as Damian frowned and pulled the car to a stop along the side walk. As we got out everyone ran towards us, Jason talking on the phone frantically as he neared us. "What is it?" Damian asked as he ran his hand through his still wet curls.
"It's Stefan. He says 'Game on'."
