We ended up going over to Derrick's house again. His parents were gone for the night. We drank beer, and when we got hungry, the boys started pulling food out of the fridge and cupboards. Adam was making a pot of ramen noodles. He had a pot of water boiling on the stove. It was then that Jackson started to act weird. He started muttering to himself, and he kept holding up his hand. I wondered how much he had to drink. Or if he had taken something more potent than booze.

It was weird the way he stood there just looking at the steaming pot of water. He held up his hand again and started saying freaky shit about how he wondered what was under the skin. Saying he wanted to see bones beneath his skin.

I was seriously thinking what the hell, when he suddenly rushed forward, pushed the pot aside and stuck his hand straight down on the red-hot burner. There was the sound of sizzling and the smell of burned skin. I think I screamed. It took both Derrick and Adam to pull Jackson away from the stove.

Jackson's hand was really burned. The skin was melted, I could see bone and muscle. I gagged when I looked at it. Someone called 911, and the paramedics showed up and took Jackson away.

He didn't return to school for a week, and when he showed back up, he had a bandage on his hand, he had dark purple bags under his eyes, and he looked like he had been through hell.
