I knew what your answer was before I asked you the question
Of course you couldn't stay for long
It wasn't in your nature
And so I went about cherishing every moment with you
Ive never had much to cherish when I'm without you
I don't have a Polaroid camera because I can't afford one
But I captured you in my mind's eye
I committed every one of your tiny mannerisms to memory
And I breathed in your scent because you smelt so good
Like Christmas cake and cinnamon spice
Like freshly cut grass and flowers resting in the shrubbery in my grandma's garden
I cherished you and cherished you well
Saving every moment carefully in my head
But there is a moment I've tried very hard to forget
The moment I woke up alone in the cold
You left a note
Of course you did
You always do
Maybe I'll see you again soon.
Love
Your inconsistent lover,
Happiness
