I was hoping to get home, do a little happy dance, release the bodily fluids in the bathroom, cook dinner, and then watch that promised scary movie with Hayden and Skylar. Whipping the wheel to park in front of my house, I basically jump out of the car- ready to share the news with my family. I was expecting to open the front door and find my son screaming his favorite song and Skylar slapping her hands on a flat surface to help create the beat to his favorite song of the day, but that's not what greets me.What I get, when I fling open the front door and call out, "Honey I'm home!", is my pussy magnet neighbor sitting, pretzel style, on the living room floor while my creative son slaps stickers on his forehead. They both turn their heads sharply at me as I enter. Oh no, not this again.
"BUN-BUTT!!!!" Hayden drops his stickers and, in a flash, rams into my legs, hugging me as tightly as his tiny body can.
Bending down I kiss the top of his hair and murmur, "Hey there, Casanova." But as I do that my eyes never waver off the man in my living room. He doesn't look away, Bennett just stares back like nothing in the world could ever intimidate him to look in any other direction but my eyes.
When Hayden decides to pull away from our hug, Bennett finally says something.
"Afternoon, Aurelia."
My reply is a tight lipped smile. I don't understand why he makes me so uncomfortable, I've dealt with far worse for christ sake. And why is he here, inside my house?
And just as that question crosses my mind, Skylar, the person who holds the answer to my question, strides right in.
"You're finally home! I was starting to worry that...you got lost." She says with a look that says a little more. Probably worried that my ex had found me.
I shake my head with a small smile, "No, I actually have good news-" I point my eyes over towards Bennett direction and then at her "- can you help me look for something in the kitchen, real quick?"
I almost laugh at how a frown quickly appears on her delicate face, lines between her eyebrows digging into her skin.
As I walk the short distance to the kitchen I hear her tell Bennett that we will be right back.
It takes her a few seconds to get to the kitchen but as soon as she walks in she releases a string of words.
"I am so sorry, I know you aren't comfortable with sex god over there but he knocked on our door two hours ago looking for you and-"
"Sky!"
She stops her apologetic banter, her eyes widening in a puppy face manner. "what?"
"I'm not mad or annoyed. Jeez, do I yell at you that much?" I'll be the first to admit that I can overreact sometimes, because I'm very protective of Hayden and her but I never thought it would be to the point where she has to worry about everything she does around me.
"...No. It just that I thought you would be mad that he's inside your house after you mentioned you felt some uncomfortable- ness around him."
I tilt my head to the side, agreeing with she said. "Sky, it's fine. Besides we need some friends and it's not a bad idea to start with our neighbor."
She perks up, "really?!"
I give a nod. Her and Hayden are the extroverts here, they need to interact with people. I didn't move states down to be a strict Debby downer.
"just...don't ...share too much." I murmur. It's not that I don't trust her or that she doesn't know how to keep her mouth shut- it's more of the fact that I'm the only real close person she has, besides Hayden, and sometimes she will need to talk to someone else. I know that. I want her to make friends and go out and do her extroverted things...Just not with Bennett. This isn't because I'm jealous and want him all to myself, God knows I'd have to be insane to want that- he just seems to pull people to him. Well, okay I haven't seen him interact with anyone besides us, but he's getting to Skylar already which says a lot because Sky has some great will power and she doesn't trust easily- like me. There's just something about him.
