It was late afternoon, nearing sunset, and I had gone down to the beach with Macy along with my trusty camera.
We were having a really pleasant time - having meaningful conversations to joking around and running in the waves. At times when I stayed put on the sand, I captured a few pictures as Macy was prancing around; in her element.
She had just sat herself down next to me, asking to see the photos. I showed her, gladly receiving a delightful reaction from her each time. Except for the one photo where I got her mid-trip over her own feet, plummeting fave first into the sand. She screwed her face up at that one and asked me to delete it. I laughed and then did.
Okay maybe I didn't.
After I presented the last picture to her, I put the camera off and observed the 5 p.m. surroundings. The waves were tumbling loudly but gently, water fizzing with every roll. The sky was fading to night in a variety of pastels; pinks, lilacs and pale blues. The sky really held everything together, giving everything a calmer aura that I adored. I could easily get used to this and live to see this every single day. The pale colours even grazed the sand; bathing it to be a light cream shade.
I inhaled slowly, taking in the salty aroma before exhaling again with a smile upon my lips.
"I'm going to miss this," I said.
"It's wonderful, isn't it? Being away from the busy city life for these two weeks and coming to just appreciate the nature. I thrive on this," Macy replied. I looked at her, her eyes directed at the ocean.
There was a brief, but comfortable silence between us. We were sitting with our legs outstretched and our arms holding us up behind us.
"What do you plan to do after camp? Do you have friends to go home to?" I asked and she turned to look at me.
"Yeah, I have two close friends. We haven't made any plans, but it's bound to happen."
I gave her a halfhearted smile before sighing deeply, feeling myself almost completely deflate. It was her simple statement that made me reminisce the fact that I had no friends back home, that I would return to my lonely and friendless life. I guess it just shows how this camp has occupied my mind with so many good thoughts and me living in the moment everyday with my newfound friends had basically erased all memory of otherwise.
"Summer?" Macy's voice echoed through the walls of my thoughts.
I blinked a few times to bring myself down to the beach again, where I was sat next to the dark-haired girl who was looking at me with a glint of concern in her emerald orbs. "Oh- uh, yeah?"
"You zoned out a bit there. What's on your mind?" She asked.
Oh it's just that I have no friends or any social life apart from this camp so leaving is going to be quite awful to be honest.
"It's nothing, really."
She arched an eyebrow. "Yeah, right."
Silence slipped in between us for a brief few seconds.
"Are you sure it's nothing?" She pried further, obviously not buying my cover-up.
I hesitated before shaking my head 'no', not meeting her gaze which was strongly fixated on me. I heaved a sigh in defeat. "Okay, fine-"
