Chapter2:            The News

The dining room is rather small only because of the long table that stands in the middle of it.  It has three windows, two facing the front, and one directly behind the seat, where Stephen’s father always sits.  It also has three doors, one leads into the living room, another leads into the kitchen, and the third leads to a set of stairs going up to the attic, or Ambrose’s little work out gym.

Here is Ambrose at the head of the table, Stephen to his right, Dylan, Derek beside him and on the other side sits Drew and Jasmine.  In which Jasmine is sitting to the left of Ambrose.  While they are sitting at the table eating, the red clouds disappeared and returned to blue skies, as did the birds return to sing their songs.  Stephen turns in his chair, sees that the clock says that it is about midday, he returns his gaze on the ground outside and notices that there is no snow to be seen anywhere.

Where Stephen is sitting he can see all what goes on outside.  His frown turns to a smile when he sees the sun.  “Hey Jasmine, would you mind turning around and open up that window.”

She looks at him with curiosity in her face.  “Okay sure.”  She says, also sounding curious.

She turns around and opens the window and as she does, Stephen says.  “Thanks!  I want to hear the birds chirp again, it always gives me inspiration in the morning.”  She turns around and looks at him, he smiles, and she returns the smile.  He closes his eyes, she than realizes that his smile got wider, not because of her, but because he starts to think about all that has gone on.  He is clearly having the thought of him being someone who is a lot more special than what everyone has thought him out to be.  His smile quickly returns to the frown.  “Hey...”  He points out onto the driveway than opens his eyes, and he sees someone coming up the driveway.  “Look!”  Stephen stats really cautious, everyone turns around and looks outside, except Jasmine because she had turned around when she saw him point.

Dylan is the only one to say something.  “It’s Joel!”  He gets up and heads toward the door.

“Where are you going Dylan?”  Derek asks.

“I’m going to go open the door for him.”

“That won’t be necessary, Dylan.”  Joel appears, he is standing right in behind him, he looks down at him, Dylan turns around, looks up, and then Joel gives a sharp glance over at Stephen.  This glance that Stephen saw didn’t seem to welcoming, but one of warning, no smile, no blinking and it wasn’t even long enough for anyone to catch.  But it was long enough for Stephen to feel some kind of suspicion about this Joel guy, no one else caught it but him.  “They seem to forget I’m a warlock, doors don’t stop me.”  His glare slowly evolves into a wink and a smile which is still directed at Stephen.  Both he and Dylan walk over to the table and take their seats, Dylan in between Derek and Stephen, and Joel at the end of the table across from Ambrose.

            CRAAASSSSSHHHHH

Everyone looks over at Drew.  “Damn to hell.  I hate warlocks…  They scare me.”  Drew starts.  “No thanks to you warlock…”  He points at Joel.  “For the first time a shrew can say that he’s lost his appetite.”

“Humph!”  Jasmine clears her throat from beside him.  “What happened to a dwarf shrew being so different from a shrew?  Eh?”
