PROLOGUE

Mycroft sat at his desk, waiting for the kid to come into his office. There was a knock on his door and he heard Anthea's voice on the other end.

"Sir, she's here"

Mycroft was slightly taken aback by the word she, he had expected the prosecutor to be male.

"Let her in" he said sternly, he stood up as the door opened.

"Miss knightly"

"Please sir, call me Anna" said the girl in a light accent.

Mycroft observed her. She was around 5 foot 2. She had brown hair which was matted and ratty, her eyes were a deep blue in color with flicks of silver, but there were bags under them. Her face was slim, her mouth was small but with big lips. Even through the layers of clothes she was wearing Mycroft could tell she was very thin and more on the side of hungry then full, but she did not give the appearance of being weak. She held her self well but looked quite tired and a bit nervous. She appeared to be around 15 and a bit.

Mycroft gestured to one of the chairs in front of his desks.

"Sit down, Miss knightly."

Anna looked at Mycroft slightly taken aback at still being addressed by her sername. She sat, but in the opposite chair Mycroft had pointed to. Although it seemed she did it unknowingly.

"Now"said Mycroft "I'm guessing you know why you're here"

He paused waiting for an answer.

"Well sir, I know what I did to get in trouble, but I don't know why I'm here" she looked around his office "because it was just some pick pocketing, I mean, aren't you like part of the government not the police"

Mycroft was taken aback by her politeness, and her knowledge of his work.

"Well, Miss knightly, you are here because you pick-pocketed one of our to agents-

"Sir" she Interrupted "I- I didn't know I-I really didn't know I though he was just like some kinda guy from a bank or something."

"Don't interrupt me when I'm talking you understand"

Mycroft said loudly, Anna broke eye contact and starred at the floor.

"Sorry sir" she mumbled

He continued

"I believe you didn't know you were pick-pocketing a government agent, but sadly most of my fellow board members believe you to be a spy or dangerous criminal, and they have decide that I am to pick your punishment"

Anna tensed, looking up at Mycroft, hoping he wouldn't say prison.

"I will give you a choice" he said looking at Anna " two options, the first being prison and probably longer then you have been there before."

Anna was puzzled for a moment about how Mycroft knew she had been to prison before but then saw his hands playing with a folder and took a guess at it being her folder, filled with details about her being homeless, an orphan and a criminal.

"Or" he said slightly dramatically "you could help me with a few things"

Anna weighed the choice carefully, knowing that 'a few things' would not be cutting grass or cleaning up. She definitely didn't want to go to prison and the choice was quite clear.

"I guess I will go with the second option sir, what exactly do you need me to do?"
