Dull noise, the only sound to be heard through the small two bedrooms, bathroom, and kitchen and cramped living room. The noise was too small for one to be woken up by but someone with trained ears could hear it. The girls hazel green eyes try to blink it away, only to be disappointed to hear it. Various objects are thrown to shut it up but to no avail. Her eyes blink open again to observe the room, no one. She heaves herself out of the bed and onto the cold wooden floor, slowly stepping into the hallway to find her father sleeping with a small old radio, shutting it off she sets it onto the floor and goes into the kitchen, makes a cup of coffee and goes to the garage. She looks at the wall clock which reads about four am, knowing she cannot fall asleep now she starts working on a beat up blue Ford GT.

"Darlin' what are you doing?" her father's voice was rough and louder than normal saying he just woke up. She doesn't answer, instead she asks for the small tool box that will be to his left in a matter of seconds. "We got rid of that toolbox a while back," he laughs. "No we didn't. I must have lent it to Charlie or something," she says as she pulls herself out from under the car, "I'm going to go get it. You can stay here I'll just be a few minutes." "Aspen you know Chicago is almost an hour away, no you're not."

They switched off and on for the driving the car during the ride, simple yet effective to make sure no one got tired. The city approached the view from the front and the sides. The sound of cars and people talking filled the car due to them being open, Aspen approaches Charlie's house. "I'll be back in a second," she says to her father as she gets out of the car and sprints to the front door. She knocks and immediately it's answered and Charlie leaves and comes back with the red box they small talk for a second and 'thank you' is exchanged. She gets in and buckles into the passenger side. Her father chuckles, "Still doesn't get the point he's not your type does he Darlin'?" His laughter brings a smile to her face, "Of course not." As he pulls out of the driveway a car speeds down the road almost taking out the tail end of their car. Only the muffled words of profanity is said.

Her father drives into the city due to the way they came being blocked by four cars piled up. Having a crash on that small street wasn't uncommon but it made it getting out more difficult. The city was now buzzing with life, luckily for them it was a Saturday and not every many people had work. But that's what made it so strange; it was never this jammed unless it was a work day. Honking horns and yelling can be heard. She wanted to say something but her mind couldn't form words, all it took was once glance at her father to realize she wasn't the only one trying to make sense of it. Then the honking stopped and it went silent, one that made you regret breathing, the city of noise went quiet. She starts looking around to see what they do and within a second she finds it. "Dad," her voice is louder than expected. His eyes follow hers and he sees it, the huge metal ships, hovering, in the sky. Not like the ones from the various superhero movies, this one looked like one straight out of a horror film. Its silver grey completion drawed the eye with it against the blue and white sky. No one said anything for a second, everyone heard about the metal robots, everyone saw the transmission from not to log ago but it didn't feel real, until you are right there. It all stood silent, the world quiet and focused, waiting for, something. A light goes through the sky and a crack sound echoes, the beam blinds all the ongoing watchers. A building is torn apart from the blast and objects fall from it, the next ones do the same and objects fall onto a pedestrian filled road, screaming erupts and people fleeing any way they can. Her fear kicks in, "Dad." Her voice cracks. He says nothing but reverses the car and starts to go backwards. Metal is falling from every direction, including onto their car. Small thunks hit the roof and both of them duck with each one. "Keep your head down," his voice yells and she obeys. A piece of metal blocks their way out and he hits the breaks, quickly putting it in drive he looks ahead, a loud shriek is heard and her vision goes black. Slowly she gains it back, looking around, she checks herself and feels not a significant amount of pain. "Dad I'm okay where-," her voice trails off as she sees the blood everywhere. Her head snaps to the driver seat and she muffles a scream. Her eyes try to tear away at the sight but instead she takes it all in, every ounce: the look of horror on his face, the crimson blood coming through his supposed mouth, the blood spattered onto the pole looking like someone spilled it on there, the way his flesh was splintered apart in such a way that it was unnatural, the way the metal hit him directly through his entire body to where all one could distinctly make out was the wedding band of Aspens mother that was on the hand pushing her away from the pole. Her eyes shut and tears rolled down her blood soaked cheeks, she knew exactly what her father would want her to do; run, run as far and as fast as she could and she would do just that. Her hand went to the door handle and tried to open it only to find it stuck, so she started to push it with her shoulder and opened it. Once out of the car she looked around and found it to look much differently than it did a little less than thirty-minutes ago. She started to run only to find an immense amount of pain on the left side of her body but yet she still needed to get out of there.

Planes could be heard as well as gun shots and some sort of beam gun, she had gotten off the road and started through alley ways, loud walking of robots could be heard but she tried to block them out. Once through the alleyway she looked out to see no one on the main street, she leaned against the wall and breathed, it will be okay. She pushed herself out and ran through the street, a loud noise -metal meeting concrete- occurred and she was instantly laying on the ground, her eyes open to see a pair of large red eyes and a dark shadowed metal face.
