Monsters

Monsters are real, so are ghosts. They live inside us. We fight them and they fight back. And sometimes, they win...

The sky was dark. But then again, when wasn't it? The air was cold and lifeless, the once busy streets deserted, with the only sound being the familiar wail of the siren in the background. No birds cawed softly from the rafters, no rats peered out from their cracks in the walls and no human breathed in the stagnant air.

The old buildings groaned, making their ailments known to the world as their mouth like doors swung backwards and forwards, screeching in protest. Floorboards moaned from their moulds, their deep voices joined by a quieter, higher one. Upon closer inspection of the dying house, a boy, no older than 14 could be seen, huddled in a mildewy corner, his chest rising and falling irregularly.

His fevered forehead shone in the artificial light that crept in through the holes in the ceiling, his breathing was raspy, his eyes flickered back and forth under his eye lids. While it was obvious he was fighting a sickness, the reason he had been left behind was because of the battle he was warring behind those closed lids.

Shadows seemed to be drawn towards him yet they were repelled, forming an eerie bobbing dance that surrounded the boy, hiding him mostly from view. His body twisted and contorted into impossible shapes but the cracking of his bones went unnoticed by him as he continued his nightmarish movements. It wasn't too much longer before he screamed, not a cry of agony but one of complete and utter despair as he slumped, motionless into a heap, his chest no longer moving and his heart completely still.

Despite this however, he began to twitch, his finger first, then arm then his head shot up, eyes still closed, taking in deep, shuddering breaths. His sudden movement had disrupted a cloud of dust that now danced around him, following the shadows' movements as they slowly began to seep into his body, making the air around him seem darker.

It was only moments later that he opened his eyes, one a pitch black, the irises and even the outside of his eye was darker than the night, the other, a piercing green that widened in shock and dismay.

"I failed..." his young voice echoed through the previous silence.

"Quite the contrary young one...I think it all went swimmingly" a cold voice scratched out, stretching the young boy's vocal chords and bringing tears to his eyes. Small rivers ran down his cheeks, a complete juxtapose to the sickeningly mad grin, marring his young face.

"We are one now young one... you fought well child, better than my last host but there's no use in fighting me now...I'm already here and no matter what you do, you can't hide your soul from me forever..."

Cruel laughter filled the air as the boy opened his mouth to a silent scream, clutching at his head, tears streaming down his blood soaked face as the siren blared louder than ever before, alerting the few outside the Kaprik that another of the Evos had appeared.

His polished shoes made harsh clicking noises as he strode, business like and composed towards the intimidating metal door that seemed to leer at him mockingly. He entered the room and quickly took a seat, surveying the room's other occupants. A middle aged woman sat, uptight and professional in the corner, her greying hair pulled up into a tight and what looked to be painful bun. Her black suit stood out in the room composed of white and silver, but she either hadn't noticed or didn't care. She sniffed condescendingly at him as he made his way past and he resolved to ignore her.

As he took more in about the room, he noticed the security cameras staring down from the corners of the office, their lifeless eyes peering into him, slowly picking him apart. Gulping, he shook off the thought and turned his attention to the others in the room. Apart the woman with the grey hair, there was a man with dark skin, and a silver suit with a lovely young lady with fiery red hair that stood out like a beacon in the otherwise monochrome room.

Suddenly, the large metal doors swung open, revealing a man in his late thirties early forties with six or so men- all dressed in matching black suits- surrounding him.

'Body guards' he thought to himself derisively as he observed the way the men scanned the room. He quickly averted his gaze when he realised he had been caught staring.

'Great. Just great... This is exactly what I need!' he thought to himself as he watched the black, expensive shoes approach him.

"Mr Smotherly, it's a pleasure to meet you" a nasally voice rang out from somewhere above him.

"Mr Sove, the pleasures all mine"

Heya Duckies!

Yes, yes I know I should be updating He's Mine but I had this sudden brainwave and I had to write it down! This is the first story that I have written and published that is not a fanfiction that is not a poem anthology! I really love the story plot here and I think I'm going to carry it on. The updates won't be regular what with the load of homework and exams I have at the moment. However, the updates will be large and will all be over 500 words!

Leave your opinions and favourite quotes in the comments and I will put the best in the next chapter and that person will have the chapter dedicated to them!!

Today's quote of the day is ......

When life gives you lemons, keep them cuz free stuff is cool!

Stay awesome guys cuz you know you are! Ja Ne
