The Ocean

It begins.

The violins soar low, delicate, as they soar over the dark, roiling sea that are the cellos as the bases and violas swim below.

Dolphins jump above the water and dive below as the sky darkens.

The cellos rumble as the thunder closes in.

The violas strike. Lightning. Never in the same place twice. The violins scatter deep into the water, afraid.

The waves become larger. Thunder and lightning move together in a sudden harmony. The largest wave swells, and the cellos and violins try to outrun it, but the bases catch them and the violas smirk in victory.

The waters calm after that as the violins carry the quick melody. There isn't much time left before the sun sets.

The harmony swirls with the melody. Both are carried on the backs of the instruments as they swim in the clear water around colorful coral.

The sun sets, and the violins quiet. The bases, violas, and cellos and rise with the moon.

The music swells to a crescendo. Every sea creature must get in a last word before the piece ends.

With a pluck of the strings, the music fades into the air.

You shake yourself awake from your seat in the audience. For a second, you thought the ocean inside your head was real. Or maybe it was?
